At a press conference today, Mayor Malik and community partners announced the launch of PIVOT, (Partnership for Intervention, Violence Outreach, and Transformation), a new city–funded Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Program.
Through the PIVOT program, when someone is a victim of gun violence and is rushed to the emergency room for care, a trained clinical therapist will be by their side to connect them with immediate support, trauma-informed care, and long-term community resources. This support will also be extended to their loved ones.
We know that victims of violence are more likely to become further victimized in future incidents or become perpetrators of violence due to retaliation. This initiative aims to intervene in victims' lives and put them on a better path for their future. This is a partnership between the City of Akron, Cleveland Clinic Akron General, Summa Health, and Minority Behavioral Health Group (MBHG). To learn more read here: https://bit.ly/4fIkv1H
