John M Rosenberger, 69 of Allentown passed away February 16, 2026. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Ralph and Ann (Virva) Rosenberger.
John was a proud graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School class of 74. After graduation he did his undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame where he earned his degree in Biology and was also a proud member of the Notre Dame marching band.
During a gap year while he was contemplating attending law school, he returned to his Alma Mater seeking short term employment as a biology teacher. The principal had one opening as a Physics teacher, and he accepted. While teaching, he enrolled in the Pennsylvania teaching certification program, earning level I and II certifications in physics, biology and general science. He followed this by earning his M.Ed. in biology from DeSales University.
He was inducted into the Allentown Central Catholic High School “Rockne Wall of Fame” in 2016 for his continued work in supporting both the academic and sporting pursuits of the school. In 2023, he was the recipient of Central Catholic’s Semper Fidelis Award. Following his retirement in 2023, he was also a member of the Capital Campaign Cabinet and the Central Catholic Board. He later joined the faculty of Notre Dame High School, Green Pond, as a part time physics/general science teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, sister Colette and husband Peter Chandonnet of Solvang, CA, niece Allison Stevens-Robbins and husband Chip, nephews Timothy Stevens and fiancé Kristin Haines of Winwood, PA, Tucker and wife Nancy Stevens of Wilmington, NC, Great nephews Harison and wife Kate Stevens, Philip Stevens, Drew and Matthew Stevens, Jack Chandonnet, and the proud Keenan Ducks. He was predeceased by his sister Anita and her husband J Timothy Stevens.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 24th 6-8 PM in Kohut Funeral Home, Inc. 950 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102, and Wednesday 9-10 AM in St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church 924 N. Front St. Allentown, PA 18102 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 AM. Burial to follow in Grandview Cemetery, Allentown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John’s memory to Allentown Central Catholic High School.
