Measles isn’t just a little rash. As more travelers visit our region for major events like the World Cup, it’s important to stay informed and protected.

According to the CDC, measles is one of the most contagious diseases and can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia, brain swelling and hospitalization. Symptoms may include high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes and a rash that appears several days later. About 1 in 5 people who get measles will be hospitalized.

The best protection is the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. Before traveling—or welcoming visitors from around the world—make sure you and your family are up to date on vaccinations.
