When seconds count and every breath matters, our Respiratory Therapists are there.

From the ER and ICU to surgical recovery and medical-surgical floors, this team is on the move every shift. They're at the head of the bed for every Code Blue, rapid response and critical ER arrival, securing airways, managing ventilators and helping save lives.

But there's a lot more. Our RTs assist with complex bedside procedures, help ICU patients safely transition off life support and perform specialized tests that provide critical information in minutes. The department also oversees cardiac and neurological diagnostics, completing an impressive 1,349 EKGs and 52 EEGs each month!

And something else especially cool: Our RTs are helping train the military's elite! Four active-duty Air Force personnel from JBER currently work alongside our team, sharpening their critical care and ventilator management skills to prepare for high-stakes medical transport missions around the world. It's an incredible reflection of the expertise our team brings to work every day.

Some nurses leave an impression that lasts long after a patient leaves the hospital.

For one of our patients, ER nurse Andrew was that person. After returning to our emergency room months after a previous visit, she recognized Andrew as the nurse who had cared for her before. Once again, his kindness and compassion made a lasting impact.

"There are certain nurses you remember, and Andrew is absolutely one of them," she said. During a frightening and uncertain experience, Andrew's calm, reassuring presence helped her feel safe and cared for. "Even though the emergency room was incredibly busy, Andrew never made me feel like I was just another patient."

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is the consistency of Andrew's care across two separate visits.

"Patients may not remember every test, medication, or conversation, but they remember the people who made them feel safe. I will remember Andrew for exactly that reason."

It's nurses like Andrew who make more than just words. His compassion, professionalism and dedication reflect the exceptional care our ER team strives to provide every day.

Every breath counts, and respiratory therapists help make lifesaving care possible. During Respiratory Care Week, we join our broader HCA Healthcare network to recognize the important role respiratory therapists (RTs) play in caring for patients and supporting care teams.

With specialized training in lung and respiratory care, RTs provide expert care during critical moments — from emergency care and intensive care to recovery and ongoing support.

As part of HCA Healthcare, RTs collaborate with care teams across a network that supported approximately 47 million patient encounters in 2025, including 10 million emergency room visits. Through their clinical skill, compassion and collaboration, they help care for patients when it matters most.

Thanks to the community members who stopped by our medication take back event today to get rid of unused or expired medications. We turned over 276 lbs. of medications for safe disposal to the Department of Drug Enforcement (DEA). Thanks for doing your part to help ! And we *really* appreciate the partnership with the Anchorage Police Department and the DEA! Thank you!

Here's a high five to the heroes working behind the scenes to keep our hospital running 24/7/365.

Our Facilities and Engineering team keeps our buildings, equipment systems and physical environment safe, operational, compliant and efficient. From a 2 am call about a leaking sink to maintaining critical operating room ventilation, managing emergency systems and overseeing multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects, this team solves problems most of us never even know existed.

Their work may not always be seen, but it is essential to ensure our patients, colleagues and community have a safe, comfortable and reliable place to receive care.

To our unsung heroes, thanks for the late-night calls, fast fixes and countless challenges you tackle, and the pride you take in keeping our hospital running strong.

Speaking of working behind the scenes, it's been more years than anyone can remember since they've agreed to a group photo. So we're celebrating the incredible work they do AND the rare occasion of getting nearly the entire team in front of a camera. 🎉

On October 24, 10 a.m. to noon, safely dispose of your medications, help make our community safer and by removing unneeded medications and prescription drugs from your home.

Our friends with the Anchorage Police Department will be on hand with us to receive unneeded and expired medications. Come to the drive through on the north side of medical office building E at 1200 Airport Heights Road, 99508. No needles, syringes, lancets or illegal drugs, please.

Great leadership isn't defined by a title. It's demonstrated through actions, teamwork and the ability to inspire others.

Yesterday we introduced a new award: the CNC Matrix of Leadership Award, a new peer-nominated recognition honoring Clinical Nurse Coordinators who go above and beyond to support their teams, elevate patient care and strengthen our culture.

Congrats and high five to Henry of Medical 5, our first award recipient!

His colleagues recognized him for his positive attitude, approachable leadership, dedication to patients and willingness to step in whenever his team needs support.
