Each August, Earth passes through a stream of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle. As those tiny particles enter our atmosphere, they burn up and create the brilliant streaks of light we call “shooting stars.”

This year, the shower peaks around August 12–13, perfectly timed with the New Moon for darker skies and better viewing.
