The Covering House

Restoring the lives of sexually trafficked youth in the U.S. The Covering House is a therapeutic recovery program for youth who have been sexually trafficked.

Our COVER Care™ program is being licensed and copyrighted as an evidence-based program for national distribution. The program integrates specialized therapies (horticulture, equine, culinary, and arts/expressions) with experiential learning, individual and group therapy, sensory diet, and a full in-house, trauma-informed education program designed to meet the physical, mental, spiritual, and emoti

onal needs of survivors. Since 2009, The Covering House has served 440+ children and teens and educated 11,000+ at-risk youth on trafficking red flags and self-protective behaviors.

Not every WIN is seemingly “big”, but even the small WINS can have a big impact!

When one of our clients, Janelle, came to The Covering House, emotional outbursts were her norm. In the time that she has been here, Janelle has started to relax and let down her guard, even opening up to her therapist. She has learned how to calm herself down (most of the time).

Janelle still has a long road of healing ahead of her, but she’s come so far. She even feels hope again and hope is such a powerful thing, especially for our girls.

Today for our DBT skill we are talking about the rational/reasonable, emotional, and WISE mind.

Rational Mind is cool, ruled by thinking, facts and logic.
Emotional Mind is hot, ruled by emotions and urges
WISE Mind is BOTH, a balance of both the rational and emotional mind.

WISE mind is the desired headspace we need in order to make well-rounded, informed decisions. An example of this might be, buying a new car. We need both our emotion and logic brain to make a decision that we are confident in.

Our first big WIN this year was certainly moving into our new home!

In February, thanks to our generous donors, we were able to open our new 17,000 square foot home. It offers a safe refuge for up to 10 girls. 6 of these 10 beds are being used right now. More girls than ever are given warm beds, quilts to sleep with, healthy meals, education, and life skills training.

The girls recently had prom! The whole night was wonderful, but one of the highlights was certainly the beautiful corsages that so generously donated by Petals and Plants Sullivan Mo Each corsage was specially made with love and care to match the girls' dresses. They were also made of a material that will never wilt, so the girls get to keep their corsages forever. What a wonderful keepsake!

Today is Social Media Giving Day. There is no better time to launch our TCH Give Day Campaign!

On July 30, World Day Against Human Trafficking in Persons, we will be rallying the community in support of The Covering House. Leading up to that day, we will be sharing WINS, big and seemingly small, so that you can understand the difference your donation makes in the lives of youth effected by trafficking or exploitation.

Angels Frontline is a non-profit organization that works to provide comfort, stability, and support by supplying necessary items for those rebuilding after crisis. They have supported us by providing our girls things like laptops for schools and phones for our internet safety program. We so deeply appreciate their mission and generosity.

Our 2026 Dine for Dignity Gala was a HUGE success! Since the event, the support we received has served eight girls in our residential home, nine youth in the community, and 310 youth and community members through trafficking prevention training. Thank you!

If you could not make it this year, don't sweat it. Instead, save the date for next year! Our 2027 DINE FOR DIGNITY GALA will be Saturday, April 17, 2027, at The Four Seasons St. Louis.

It is . At The Covering House, one of our many goals is to reimburse childhood memories that our clients may have missed out on. There are many ways the girls recreate those memories. They play hopscotch, go on fun outings, throw parties, and more!
