Pugh Funeral Home

Pugh Funeral Home Pugh Funeral Home is a full service, funeral home and crematory serving Asheboro, Randleman, Troy, a Pugh Funeral Home can trace its roots back to 1857.

The Pugh Funeral Home page is written to help families and friends learn about our history, people, and services. Emory Kearns, a well-known Randolph County citizen, sold coffins and officiated at funerals as a sideline to his furniture store. An associate of Kearns, O.R. Fox, took over both businesses in 1885. Fox's son-in-law, Jess T. Pugh, joined the firm in 1921 and later purchased it

in 1927. In 1932 Jess Pugh separated the funeral home from the furniture business and officially established Pugh Funeral Home. The Randleman facility was established in 1938 and the Pugh-Troy Funeral Home was purchased in 1967 from Mr. Gene Reynolds. In 1984, the Pugh's moved their Asheboro facility into a newly constructed home at 437 Sunset Avenue. By 1993, the Pugh's had established Randolph County's first crematory- Central Carolina Crematory. In early 1999 Asheboro Florist and Interiors was purchased by the Pugh's in order to offer convenience and availability to families selecting funeral flowers. In 1999, the Buckner Family of Siler City approached the Pugh's regarding the purchase of their family's funeral home. Later that year Smith & Buckner Funeral Home of Siler City, North Carolina joined the Pugh family firms. In 2001, New Hope Memorial Gardens opened. This 42 acre site is becoming one of the premier cemeteries in the area. The initial 3 acres offer over 2800 interment spaces in a beautifully landscaped haven. In spring of 2017 the Pugh's were pleased to add Phillips Funeral Home in Star to the Pugh Funeral Home Family. Throughout the years, the firm has remained family owned and operated. Jess Pugh's son, J.T. "Jack" Pugh, became President of the company in 1953. Today, the reigns of leadership are in the hands of two of his sons: Mac and Ed Pugh.

Michael Patrick McGinn

Michael Patrick "Pat" McGinn, 76, of Asheboro, North Carolina (NC), passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro NC.

Pat was born on March 12, 1950, in Aurora, Illinois (IL), to the late Warren and Shirley (Nanninga) McGinn. He graduated from West Aurora High School in 1969, where he participated in wrestling and cross-country. Pat spent many years as a conductor with Burlington Northern Railroad, a career he took great pride in.

Pat lived life freely. As a young man, he loved riding motorcycles and traveled extensively across much of the country on two wheels, creating memories and friendships wherever the road led. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was an animal lover at his core and held a special place in his heart for German Shepherds throughout his life. His love of animals began in childhood when he found and cared for a flying squirrel, he named Scrapper.

More recently, Pat was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Asheboro. A devoted Lutheran, Pat loved his Lord and Savior and tried to live his life through the teachings of his Christianity.

Above all, Pat was a devoted father, brother, and friend. His children were the pride and joy of his life. Known for his generosity and kindness, Pat's door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, a helping hand, or simply someone to listen. When questioned about his generosity even to those looking to take advantage, Pat explained, "I'm not going to let the bad in them ruin the good in me."

Pat is survived by his son, Kevin McGinn, of Asheboro, NC; his daughter, Siobahin McGinn; his brother, Terry McGinn, of Oswego, IL; and his sister, Kathy Shaw (Randy), of Aurora, IL.

Julissa Duarte

In Loving Memory of Julissa Duarte

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Julissa Duarte who left this world far too soon at the age of 20.

Julissa was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and grew up in Candor, North Carolina, where she was known for her vibrant spirit, kind heart, and beautiful smile. She was full of life and had a passion for travel, always looking forward to new adventures, experiences, and opportunities to create lasting memories. Julissa touched the lives of many through her laughter and genuine love for family and friends. Her adventurous nature and caring soul will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her loving parents, Otoniel Duarte and Nayeli Matias Morales; her devoted sisters, Hailey Duarte and Giselle Duarte, along with Giselle's partner, Jamie Christian; her precious niece, Alianna Serena Christian, whom she adored; her cherished grandmothers, Maria Salazar and Beatriz Morales; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Though her time with us was far too short, the love she shared and the memories she created will remain with us forever. As we remember Julissa, we find comfort in the promises of Scripture that guided her life. One of the verses she cherished was Philippians 4:6: "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done".

Today, her family also holds close to the promise found in John 11:25-26; Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”

Julissa will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
