At Mission Health, we show up for our patients, our communities and each other. 💙

This week, Mission Health team members put that commitment into action at MANNA FoodBank's annual Pack to Give Back event, helping pack nutritious food for neighbors across Western North Carolina experiencing food insecurity.

We're proud to partner with organizations like MANNA that are making a meaningful impact throughout our region. Thank you to our dedicated colleagues who volunteered their time and energy to help ensure more families have access to the food they need.

Because when our community needs support, we show up.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the meaningful conversations and resources that helped support mental wellness across Mission Health and our community.

This month, Mission Health hosted Healing in Every Voice: A Conversation on Mental Well-Being, bringing together healthcare professionals, community organizations and local leaders to discuss mental health needs in marginalized communities and the importance of culturally responsive care. The event also featured a volunteer outreach activity and the presentation of a $25,000 HCA Healthcare Foundation grant to NAMI Western Carolina to support mental health education, advocacy and community programs.

Colleagues also participated in a self-guided Staff Mental Health Walk at Mission Hospital, created by Jenny Schermerhorn, Mission Health's Dedicated Wellbeing Consultant with Optum. Featuring five reflection stations and original mini-paintings, the walk encouraged staff to pause, prioritize wellbeing and remember an important message: We All Need Support.

Thank you to our colleagues, community partners and advocates who continue to champion mental health awareness, reduce stigma and support wellness throughout Western North Carolina.

"As demolition moves this week to the primary building at the old St. Joseph campus on Biltmore Avenue, I’ve found myself reflecting on just how many lives were shaped inside that building, including my own.

I started my career there nearly 20 years ago, never imagining how deeply connected my family already was to that hospital. My father was born there in the 1950s, and years before that, my grandmother volunteered there as a candy striper. St. Joe’s wasn’t just a hospital to many of us in Asheville; it was part of the fabric of our families and our community."

Read the full reflection from Melina Arrowood, chief operating officer of Mission Hospital, as she honors the history of St. Joseph's Hospital, a longstanding beacon of care, healing and love, as well as a beloved workplace for so many of our colleagues past and present: https://bit.ly/4ebMl59

Do you have a fond memory of St. Joe's? We invite you to share it with us and with our community in the comments as we remember and celebrate this cherished symbol. 💙
