🐾 Meet the four-legged friends making a meaningful difference for patients, caregivers and families. This National Dog Day, we’re celebrating them and the joy they bring every day.

Facility and therapy dogs are valued members of our broader HCA Healthcare family. These specially trained companions can brighten someone’s day and may help reduce stress, anxiety and feelings of isolation. They even have their own badges and earn anniversary pins for their years of service.

Whether they’re bringing calm to a care setting or adding a daily dose of pawsitivity to our lives, dogs truly make a difference.

Mission Health is proud to celebrate Claire Lewis, a recipient of the HCA Healthcare Foundation's Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship!

Claire is no stranger to Mission Health. Her father, Josh Lewis, serves as the Stroke Program manager and she participated in our Junior Volunteers Program in both 2024 and 2025, generously giving her time to serve others and gaining valuable experience along the way. Now, she is beginning an exciting new chapter at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she plans to pursue her dream of becoming an ultrasound technician.

When Claire learned she had received the scholarship, she shared:

“I was so excited when I learned that I had received the Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship! Every bit helps tremendously as I begin my education at UNC Chapel Hill, and I am so thankful to get this award... I hope to be able to give back to my community in the near future and cannot wait to see what college has for me! Thank you again!”

Claire, we’re grateful you chose to spend two summers serving with Mission Health, and we’re excited to see where this next chapter takes you. Congratulations on this well-deserved scholarship, and best wishes at UNC Chapel Hill!

As local schools start back and we wrap up an incredible summer, we're celebrating the next generation of healthcare professionals!

This summer, we were thrilled to welcome our Junior Volunteers, who spent time learning and serving alongside teams across many of our hospital departments.

We also had the privilege of hosting the MEDCAT Summer Camp, CAYLA Summer Camp, and MAHEC Health Careers Summer Camp. Camp participants explored the exciting world of healthcare through hands-on experiences in our Trauma Bay, EMS, Radiology, Respiratory Services and Clinical Education.

Thank you to our dedicated staff who invested their time, knowledge and passion into inspiring these future healthcare leaders. We hope the experiences they gained this summer will spark a lifelong commitment to caring for others.

Santa decided to take a vacation from the North Pole this summer and visit our level III NICU at Mission Hospital to bring smiles, sunshine and a little holiday magic to the unit

Moments like these remind us that joy can be found in every season. Thank you to our NICU team and Family Support Network of WNC, who helped make this Christmas in July celebration so memorable for our NICU families. We're grateful for opportunities like these to create special memories and bring a little joy to families during their NICU journey.

Please keep in mind, these photos are taken under the watchful supervision of our expert NICU care team to ensure safety. Babies should be placed on their backs to sleep, with nothing else in the crib. To learn more about our NICU, visit missionhealth.org/baby
