Aspen Valley Health has earned Level III Trauma Redesignation from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, with zero deficiencies for the second consecutive review cycle. State reviewers called our program the "gold standard" for Level III trauma centers in Colorado.

This recognition belongs to every person who makes extraordinary care possible at AVH: emergency physicians, surgeons, nurses, EMS teams, ski patrol, radiology and rehab specialists, and so many more.

Summer in the Valley often comes with big goals. Summit that 14er, hit the trail at sunrise, go all in. But movement doesn't have to be all-or-nothing.

Anafer Barrera is here to introduce "joyful movement", a mindset that shifts exercise from a chore or punishment to a pleasurable self-care practice. It's about focusing on how movement makes you feel, mentally and physically, and choosing activities you genuinely enjoy rather than forcing yourself into rigid routines.

Watch as Anafer shares more, and her favorite way to get moving (hint: it involves a very good dog 🐾).

What does joyful movement look like for you? Tell us in the comments.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect across Pitkin County 🔥🚫

Starting Wednesday, June 10 at noon, Pitkin County has enacted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions due to dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk. As your community-supported health system, Aspen Valley Health wants every neighbor and visitor in the Roaring Fork Valley to stay safe this season.

What to know:
Fires are only allowed in designated fire grates, enclosed fire pits at private residences or valve-controlled devices like gas grills and propane fire pits.
Fireworks and other spark-producing devices are prohibited.
Smoking is restricted to enclosed vehicles, enclosed buildings or flammable-free outdoor urban areas.
Welding, torch work and similar activities are restricted to cleared areas with a fire extinguisher on hand.

Wildfire prevention is a shared responsibility and every precaution helps protect our families, homes and the landscapes we love. Stay informed on changing conditions at pitkinemergency.org.

June is Men's Health Month and we asked one of our own, Dr. Bryan Gieszl, MD, to share what he tells his patients.

His advice?
1️⃣ Move your body and build strength, not just endurance.
2️⃣ Cut back on alcohol.
3️⃣ And don't underestimate the power of your friendships. Research shows the quality of our relationships is one of the strongest predictors of how long and how well we live.

Small shifts, big impact. Talk to your provider about where to start.

For you. For life.

"As we welcome the month of June, I want to take a moment to recognize an extraordinary achievement for Aspen Valley Health and to thank the many individuals who contribute every day to the exceptional care available in our community.

This past month, Aspen Valley Health successfully completed its Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Level III Trauma Center recertification review with full accreditation and no deficiencies or reservations identified by the state survey team. Even more meaningful, the reviewers described AVH as the “gold standard” for Level III trauma centers in Colorado, noting that some Level I and II centers could learn from the systems and processes developed here at Aspen Valley Health."
