Some anticipated & unanticipated side effects of taking these risks are: growth, peace, clarity, depth, connection, relief, joy, better sleep, better friendships, longevity, confidence…and more!

What are some things that you’ve learned are worth it in therapy?

Words have meaning. They can offer permission, they can create connection, they provide education, they can clarify.

They can validate your experience, they can explain your experience and they can help you feel more understood, enlightened and much less alone when you’re struggling.

As a psychologist, a large part of training is what you say, when you say it, how you say it and what meaning you are trying to convey to patients seeking care, assistance and space. I use my words carefully + intentionally (I do my best, at least) and have found that the words in this video are imperative to use with clients to help address their lived experiences, the barriers they face, the history they encounter in the present, and to help them see where their agency and responsibility ACTUALLY lie.

What words do you use regularly in your sessions and with whom?
What words have you recently added to your work as a therapist?
What words have some of your clients introduced you to? (I LOVE learning new words and themes from clients!)

Sullivan (2006) argues, “As ontologically expansive, white people tend to act and think as if all spaces – whether geographical, psychical, linguistic, economic, or otherwise – are or should be availableto them to move in and out as they wish” (p. 10). Essential to the definition of ontological expansiveness are two important characteristics: (1) that it is a co-constitutive relationship between White individuals and their environ-ment, “such that space is raced and that bodies become raced through theirlived spatiality” (Sullivan, 2006, p. 143), and (2) that it is fueled by a desire formastery and control over space in all its forms.” - Corces-Zimmerman, Thomas, Collins + Cabrera, 2021.

Would love to talk more about this!

Summertime Selectivity.

What parts of you will you choose for the next 31 days?
What versions of you come alive this season?
Who gets you in July and who do you take a break from?
What memories do you want to have from Summer ‘26?

Make it so.

1. pick a block of time between 30minutes and 1 hour in June that you're going to DO something you’ve been overlooking or avoiding.

2. Make the task visible, tangible, accessible; start in the home space or something electronic that doesn’t have a lot of moving parts.

3. Add this to calendar, share your plan with at least one person. Even body double during this time.

4. Do NOTHING but this thing the time your allotted, and go however far you can get.

This is a conscious choice, using your agency, trusting yourself and confronting your excuses.

Let me know—What task will you address and when? I'll share my what, where & when in the comments!

Did I tell y’all that time I was wined + dined + held + challenged + encouraged + stimulated + loved on + seen + pleasured + Rooted in Care?

My first dinner certainly will not be my last and FINALLY meeting face to face after all these years of watching BEAM grow and inspire.

I couldn’t miss surprising our more than deserving with the first Rooted in Sisterhood award! 💐

Loved every layer of detail and collective calls to action to give back and take each other forward.

Thank you for inviting to be a part of the conversation and a part of the work.
