Those black specks women find in implants are almost never mold.
That is the answer the internet lands on. In clinic, it is usually not what we find.
We have a published series of about 700 removed implants. Bacterial DNA associated with biofilm shows up far more often than mold. A DNA finding is not the same as proving the organisms were alive, proving active infection, or proving that finding caused your symptoms. Your provider has to read that in context.
The names we see over and over are normal skin bacteria. An implant has no blood supply, so your immune system cannot reach them the way it reaches the rest of your body. That is not a scandal. It is plumbing.
