So Proud of You, Cesar A. Chavez! 💜

This cause is so close to Cesar’s heart, and we couldn’t be prouder of his dedication to the Ride to End Alzheimer’s! Thanks to his efforts and the generosity of our amazing community, he raised enough funds to be invited to last night’s Champions Dinner.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and supported Cesar along the way. Your generosity means so much and helps make a difference for families affected by Alzheimer’s. 💜

Today is ride day, and we’ll be cheering Cesar on every mile of the way! We’re so proud to support him in a cause that means so much to him.

Together, we ride for a future without Alzheimer’s! 🚴‍♂️

⚕️Understanding medical information is a key part of staying healthy.

Before leaving your next appointment, consider asking:
✔️ What is my diagnosis?
✔️ What treatment options are recommended?
✔️ What symptoms should I monitor?
✔️ When should I follow up?
✔️ Who should I contact with questions?

Helping families understand care plans is an important part of maintaining health and independence at home.

October is National Physical Therapy Month. Physical therapy can help older adults improve mobility, regain strength, and maintain independence. The benefits can be even greater when therapy is combined with ongoing support at home. Compassionate home care helps seniors follow their exercise plans and continue making progress between therapy sessions.

💜 Today is World Alzheimer’s Day 💜

At Homewatch CareGivers of Southwest Austin, Alzheimer’s awareness is personal to us. We have the privilege of supporting individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as the families and caregivers walking alongside them. 💜

We see the love that goes into caregiving. We also see the difficult days, the questions, the exhaustion, and sometimes the feeling of not knowing what to do next.

So today, we want to go beyond simply raising awareness. We want to invite our community to take action.

There are so many ways to make a difference, and they don’t all have to be big.

🔗 We are sharing a link below from the Alzheimer’s Association with opportunities to volunteer and get involved. But you can also make a difference right where you are.
💌 Reach out to someone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and ask how they’re doing.
🤝 Offer them a little help or a break.
💜 Spend time with someone living with dementia.
📚 Learn more about the disease so you can better understand what families may be going through.
🙋 Volunteer, advocate, donate, or simply share a helpful resource.
This World Alzheimer’s Day, we invite you to choose one thing.

One conversation. One hour. One act of kindness. One opportunity to learn or help. 💜

Small actions can mean a lot to a family navigating Alzheimer’s.

🧽 Wheelchair Wash at West Oaks 🫧

We teamed up with Joseph from Silverado Hospice to help West Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center host a wheelchair wash for its residents. Everyone pitched in, had plenty of fun, and shared lots of laughs along the way! It was a great experience for the residents, staff, and all of us. We got quite a few wheelchairs sparkling clean, too. ✨🦽

A couple of weeks ago we had the opportunity to bring the Dementia Live experience to the Caregiving Cafe! 🎉

The Caregiving Cafe is an in-person and virtual gathering led by Lynn and Gina at St. Paul Catholic Church. This group serves as a support group to all those who are family caregivers. This is a safe place where people share their experiences as a caregiver and the Caregiving Cafe team provides resources and support to help with caregiver burnout.

We teamed up to have the members go through the Dementia Live experience to have a better understanding of what their loved ones living with dementia are going through. This gives them great tools to relief some of the stress and burnout they may experience from their care by increasing their knowledge, patience, and empathy.

If you would like to partner and bring this experience to the Southwest Austin community, please reach out to us via private message. 🤝
