That is DR. Carly to you. 🩺😂

Less than 20% of surgeons in the United States are women. When I started this journey I felt that. I still feel it every single day. But that is exactly why I show up, in the OR, in my community, and on here. Representation matters. Young girls deserve to see someone who looks like them holding the scalpel. That is my why. 🩺🤍

Most long-term complications after hernia repair are related to the mesh used to reinforce the abdominal wall.

These can include infection, irritation with nearby structures, or hernia recurrence.

Laparoscopic does not mean lasers. I promise. It is one of the most common misconceptions I hear in my office and today I am clearing it up once and for all. Knowledge is power especially when it comes to your own surgery. 🩺

Before your surgical consultation, have a list. Know what you want to ask. Recovery time, pain management, activity restrictions, when you can get back to the gym — these are the things I want to go over with every single one of my patients. You deserve a surgeon who takes the time to answer all of it. 🩺

Preparation before surgery doesn’t always look dramatic. After years in the OR, it becomes routine, pattern recognition, and knowing what matters most for patient safety.

Happy Memorial Day 🇺🇸 Today we honor every man and woman who has served and sacrificed for this country. As a surgeon I see firsthand what the human body goes through, and the bravery of those who put theirs on the line every single day humbles me completely. This holiday hits a little different in our house this year. To all the military families holding it down at home, I see you. And to one soldier in particular... we love you and we cannot wait to have you home. 🤍

Some factors can increase the risk of developing diverticula and diverticulitis, including age, diet, constipation, obesity, and smoking.

There’s something surreal about becoming the woman your younger self once looked up to.

My parents still see their little girl — but now they also see a surgeon, a leader, a woman who built a life through years of sacrifice, discipline, and determination.

And maybe that’s the beautiful part.
You never stop being their daughter… even while becoming everything you dreamed of being. 🤍

One thing I always tell patients: you are not “locked in” to the first surgeon you meet.

Choosing a surgeon is deeply personal.

Yes, credentials and experience matter — but so does trust, communication, and how you feel sitting across from that person during one of the most vulnerable moments of your life.

If you leave a consultation feeling rushed, dismissed, confused, or afraid to ask questions… it is completely okay to seek another opinion.

The right surgeon for you should make you feel:
✔️ Heard
✔️ Informed
✔️ Comfortable
✔️ Respected

Patients deserve more than just technical skill. They deserve trust and connection too. 🤍
