Honored to have had the opportunity to speak at the recent CARES Community event on “Loving Well in Recovery: Boundaries, Support, and Family Healing.”

We discussed the reality of addiction as a disease that hijacks the brain and the importance of separating the person they love from the illness itself. This shift can allow families to move away from conflict and towards compassion, healthy boundaries, and meaningful influence.

These conversations matter because families are often carrying fear, exhaustion, confusion, and hopelessness long before they ever reach out for help. My hope was that attendees walked away with practical tools, a new perspective, and reassurance that healing and recovery are possible.

I’m deeply grateful to the CARES Community team for the invitation and for the work they continue to do supporting individuals and families impacted by addiction. It was an honor to share both my professional experience and personal recovery journey with such an engaged and thoughtful group.
