Did you know that this time of the year is one of the most common times of the year to catch a mild cold, stomach bug, sore throat, cold sore flare up or other low-grade viral infection? It's true.
Most people just think of winter as "cold & flu season", but springtime / early summer also presents us with just as many mild and annoying sicknesses.
Maybe its something about the change of the season or maybe even the extra burden of allergens in the air, weakening our immune system... who knows.

30 minutes to migraine relief.

A recent article published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that listening to guided meditation 30 minutes, twice a week significantly reduced the number and severity of migraine headaches suffered each week. And this reduction lasts for months thereafter.

Study participants also saw a reduction in symptoms of depression.

Even if you are already on Rx medications, research has shown is that the Vitamin B's are an effective treatment for peripheral neuropathy.
We know that chronic vitamin B12 deficiency is at the heart of many cases. So find a high quality Vitamin B Complex or "B-100" such as Solgar, Standard Process, Life Extension or one of many others. Back pain? Researchers at Boston University found that even a single minutes worth of stretching reduces back pain instantly and reduces future back pain flare ups by 62%.
They recommend a mixture of shoulder rolls, neck stretches, side bends, forward bends and gentle rocking and rolling circling of those hips.
That sounds easy and worth the time well spent.

Long ignored by the medical community, the simple act of stretching your body for even 5 minutes offers tremendous physical and mental benefits. In the case of mental health, European researchers discovered that stretching for 5 minutes twice a day (stretch for the sky, reach down for toe touches, twists and turns and gentle sitting leg stretches, for example) triggers a significant endorphin release throughout the body that slashes your risk of blue moods by 43%.

Also, doing a simple 5 minute stretching routine such as this also was shown to cut chronic pain levels by HALF!

"Overweight but still Malnourished?"
Is is possible that for many people, their depression is caused by a simple nutritional deficiency? We know that the vast majority of Americans are short on several vital nutrients such as critical vitamins and minerals necessary for basic cellular functioning.
In a recent British study, 40% of women were found to be deficient in the essential vitamin B-12. One of the jobs of B-12 is as a building block of serotonin; the brains "happy hormone".
They found that when test subjects started increasing their intake of supplemental B-12, their depression symptoms decreased 43%. (That's a lot)
You can find B-12 in rich foods such as beef, eggs, dairy and fatty fish. The British researchers used 1000ug B-12 pills for their study.

Happy Summer (part two) !!!
Did you know that the old Chinese calendar divides the year up into 24 separate seasons? Accordingly, "summer" actually started back on May 5th. And today begins the next summer season poetically named "Xiao Man" or "Full Grain".
Its an appropriate description for these next few weeks because now is the time that the grasses and grains and wheat are really coming into their own; full and fat and plump, but not quite ripe or ready for harvest. You can even see it in the neighbors lawn (you know the one that I'm talking about) where the un-mowed grass has come to seed.
So be sure to enjoy this beautiful summer season!
