Big news! Hospice Austin and Austin Palliative Care have officially joined the Memory Care Excellence Network (MCEN) and are currently the only hospice organization in the nation to receive this recognition from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.

As the number of people living with dementia continues to grow, so does the need for specialized care that addresses the unique challenges patients and families face. We're committed to meeting that need through advanced dementia training and certification across our care teams. Currently, over half of our frontline staff are Certified Dementia Practitioners, with a goal of reaching 100%.

We're proud to serve Central Texas with compassionate, expert care and excited to continue expanding our leadership in dementia-focused hospice and palliative care.

For our Provider Liaison, Kim, building connections with patients is one of the most rewarding parts of her job. "Every time I see Lois, she has a smile on her face. She is just the sweetest," says Kim.

Moments like these are what inspired Kim to join Hospice Austin six years ago. She wanted to do work that truly makes a difference.

Today, she helps families, providers, and care facilities better understand hospice and palliative care and the support available to them for end-of-life care.

The friendship between Kim and Lois is a beautiful reminder that hospice care is about so much more than medical support. It's about compassion, human connection, and the relationships that bring joy to each day.

This is what hospice care is all about. When Lynda was admitted to Hospice Austin's Christopher House, her medical needs had become too complex to manage at home. While her children visited whenever they could, she often shared that she felt lonely and missed the church family that she hadn't seen in several years.

When our team asked what she missed most about church, her answer was simple: the music.

To honor that wish, members of Lynda’s care team partnered with Swan Songs - Austin to bring a gospel singer to Christopher House. By the time of the visit, Lynda’s speech had become difficult to understand, but when the music began, something beautiful happened. She started singing along.

Soon, staff members joined in, including two of our CNAs who sing in their own church choirs. The room filled with music, creating a moment no one present will ever forget.

This video captures more than a concert. It captures the power of honoring a person's wishes and finding moments of comfort and joy when they matter most.

After Lynda’s daughter shared this special moment on her own social media, members of her church community began visiting and surrounding her with love—helping fulfill two of her greatest wishes: reconnecting with her church family and experiencing the comfort of music once again.
