Exciting coverage about our Annual Picnic!
And thank you, Emmett, who is one of our patient’s siblings, for participating in our design contest this year.
We are very lucky as a community to have the support of friends, siblings, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles….you name it!
We are grateful. And it was so much fun to see you all!

One of the things I continue to appreciate about GBMC is just how many special communities exist within our larger community. A wonderful example was the recent picnic at Lake Roland for children and families from GBMC’s Randolph B. Capone Cleft Lip and Palate Program. There were smiling kids, fac...

Dr. Antonie Kline, Medical Director, Harvey Institute for Human Genetics, Director of Clinical Genetics, Medical Director, The Randolph B. Capone Cleft Lip and Palate Program, is running in the Baltimore Running Festival for more than a medal—she’s running to support people and families affected by Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS).

For decades, Dr. Kline has cared for individuals with this rare genetic condition. She also helped establish GBMC’s free, multidisciplinary CdLS Clinic, which welcomes families from across the United States and Canada, twice a year. Thanks to WMAR-2 News Baltimore for sharing this story!

The Cyr family has been a cherished part of the Cleft Team family for over a decade, with Mr. Cyr giving back even further by joining our Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) several years ago.

Their son, Brooks, was born with a cleft lip and palate, and later discovered he required a hearing aid in his right ear. In recent years, LEGO ( ) has expanded its minifigures to embrace greater representation—introducing diverse skin tones, physical differences, and disabilities.

Thanks to generous support from LEGO, the Cyr family, and independent LEGO reseller Darcel Peterson (BrickLink Store: lecrad), Mr. Cyr was able to procure a wide assortment of minifigures across diverse skin tones and genders where every single figure features a hearing aid or cochlear implant.

This thoughtful donation to our Cleft Team and also shared with The Cochlear Implant Center at GBMC will empower our young patients to build LEGO avatars that more accurately reflects who they are as they embark on endless adventures in the universes they create!
