We know that going without food before surgery is frustrating, but it is one of the most important things you can do for your own safety!

When you are placed under general anesthesia, your body's natural reflexes—like coughing or swallowing—temporarily pause. If there is food or liquid in your stomach, it could travel up and into your lungs, which is extremely dangerous. By following the fasting instructions exactly as provided, you allow your Nurse Anesthesiologist to keep your airway perfectly safe and secure while you sleep!
