Timothy A. Coots

Timothy A. Coots, 67, of Bath, NY passed away at his home on October 26, 2026.

Tim was born on February 2, 1959 to Howard and Mary Coots. He married his wife Tara in 1979.

Tim joined the Marines in 1977 and served four years. He was a member of the Bricklayer Union for 30 years and retired from Corning Inc. after 10 years.

Tim is survived by his wife of 47 years Tara; his children, TJ Coots (Crystal Emery), Trina Coots (Walter Blodgett), 5 grandchildren and 8 brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tony Coots and brother Jeff Coots.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bath American Legion on November 14th at 2:00 pm.

Denison Bryan Braman, DDS

Denison Bryan Braman 89 of Hammondsport, NY passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 24th, 2026 at Taylor Health Center, from complications of Parkinsons.

Bryan was born on February 24th, 1937 in Fairport NY, the son of Denison Baldwin Braman and Adelaide Bryan Braman.

Bryan lived in Jackson Heights, NY as a young boy graduating from Stuyvesant Private High School in Manhattan, NY. He graduated from Hobart College with a BS. He then went on to The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1963, as a dentist.

Bryan then completed Army Basic Training in Fort Sam Houston, Texas entering the Vietnam war as a Captain. He served as a Commissioned Officer with the Military Dental Corps for 3 1/2 years. He and his family were stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to serving in the Army, he became an avid surfer!

In 1967 Bryan and his family moved back to Bath, NY where he worked as a DDS for Dr Frank Nicklaus at Bath Dental for 32 years. He also served as the on staff DDS for the residents of The Steuben County Infirmary for 37 years. He was also the on staff DDS for Ira Davenport Hospital and Taylor Health Center for many years.

In retirement, he volunteered his time in the Physical Therapy Dept at The Bath VA for several years. Bryan's true Love was living at Keuka Lake, in what was formerly his parents home and his great Aunt and Uncles home before that. Bryan and his only sibling Kay used to ride the train summers from Jackson Heights, NY to stay at the Lake with family.

He loved fishing, hunting and chopping wood for his beloved fireplace, on his property. He was an avid swimmer in Keuka Lake, summers for many years, just like his dad was! He belonged to the Keuka Yacht Club and sailed on his best friend Irv Spears E Scow boat for many years.

He loved taking all the grandkids out in his boat, water skiing, tubing and patiently teaching them all how to drive it! He was affectionately known as PopPop and Grandpa Bryan, so dearly loved by all of his grandkids and great grandkids!

He had a love for music, fireworks on the beach, and always up for celebrating and having a good time with all who came to visit!

He will be greatly missed, always in our hearts.

Bryan is survived by his wife Judy A Braman of Hammondsport, NY daughter Laurie Braman McDonnell, of Bath, NY, Terry McDonnell of Cavendish, VT, two sons William B Braman of Sauquoit, NY, Andrew C Braman of Ithaca, NY., brother in law William Sanford of Cooperstown, NY, stepson Chris Monahan of Elmira, NY, stepdaughters Tammy Monahan of NC, and Kim Monahan. Grandsons Cooper Harris of Los Angeles CA, Peter McDonnell of Austin Texas, Christopher McDonnell of Philadelphia, PA, Bryan Braman of Raleigh, NC, Lucas Braman of Boston, MA, Eli Braman of Hartford Connecticut, Larry Monahan of Thurston, NY, Aaron Monahan of Buffalo, NY. Granddaughter Shannon Fenderson of Painted Post, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bryan was predeceased by his father Denison Braman, mother Adelaide Braman, sister Kay Souder, brother in law Paul Souder and mother of his children Elizabeth Cole Braman.

A private Military service and burial will be held at The Bath National Cemetery at The Bath VA for the family.

John Raymond Snyder

John Raymond Snyder, passed away on October 17, 2026, in Bath, New York, at the age of 71.

He was born on March 23, 1955, in Hornell, New York, the son of the late John and Joan Snyder. John was a familiar and respected part of the Bath community, where his voice, his interests, and his friendly manner left a lasting impression on many who knew him.

John spent many years working as a DJ for Bath's local radio station, WVIN, where he became a recognizable and trusted presence on the airwaves. Through his work, he shared music, news, and conversation with listeners throughout the area, and he took pride in being part of a station that connected with the community.

Outside of work, John had a lifelong interest in baseball card collecting. What began as a hobby became a source of enjoyment and appreciation for the memories and history connected to the game. He also supported the Republican Committee, an involvement that reflected his personal convictions and his interest in civic life. Those who knew John understood that he was thoughtful in his beliefs and steady in his support of the causes and ideas that mattered to him.

John is survived by his loving companion, Jody Flood of Bath, New York, his sister, Ellen Snyder of Ruskin, Florida his Aunt Roberta Sparling, Uncle Thomas Hall and several cousins. He also leaves behind many friends, acquaintances, and community members whose lives were touched by his presence over the years.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his infant brother, David Snyder. Their memory remained an important part of his life, and the bonds of family continued to shape the story of who he was. Whether through his work on the radio, his personal interests, or the relationships he maintained over the years, he left behind a legacy of familiarity, kindness, and quiet dedication.

His life was one of simple but lasting significance, and his memory will remain in the hearts of family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Jim Peek

James Robert "Jim" Peek of Bath, NY passed away October 5, 2026 at home tending his garden at age 78. He was born January 25, 1948 in Syracuse, NY to Robert E. and Marion E. (Savage) Peek of Syracuse, NY.

An Eagle Scout in youth, Jim then attended the College of Forestry in Syracuse, NY earning degrees in Botany and Forestry. He was drafted and sent to Vietnam where he served with distinction and was awarded the Air Medal and the Bronze Star. Jim's career was with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation: first as a field forester in Herkimer, NY, then in Utilization and Marketing in Cortland, NY and finally as Lands and Forests Supervisor in Bath. He started the Lake Erie and Ontario Saw Filers Association. Jim was a master marksman, avid photographer, rare plant enthusiast and persistent gardener. He was also active in the local community, working on the Bath Shade Tree Committee, the Mossy Bank Committee and at the Bath Rod and Gun Club, of which he had been President. And, of course, he doted on his kids and was ever so proud of their achievements. Jim loved telling stories and terrible puns.

A strong believer in stewardship and moral character, Jim Peek served his country, built a respected career, supported his community and cherished the land and people around him. His memory will remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim is survived by his wife Marie Bauernfeind Peek, son Andrew Peek, daughter Heather Slane and nephews James E. and Brian Peek. He is predeceased by his parents, son Robert Emerson Peek and brother and sister-in-law David and Theresa Peek.

A Celebration of Life well lived and luncheon will be held at Bath Rod & Gun Club on Sunday, October 25th from 1:00-4:00 pm. Come as you are, bring mementos for show and tell and your stories of Jim. Internment ceremony with honors will be at the Bath National Cemetery the following day, Monday, October 26th at 9:00 am. Donations can be made to Bath Rod & Gun Club, Quilts of Valor or any veterans' group of choice.

With heavy hearts and a lifetime of cherished memories, we announce the passing of Helen Marie VanGorder-Ragusa, age 65, who passed away on October 9, 2026.

Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who lived life with an adventurous spirit, a caring heart, and a personality that could never be forgotten.

For over 40 years, Helen dedicated her life to nursing, caring for others with compassion, strength, and dedication. Nursing was more than just a career; it was a reflection of her caring nature and the countless lives she touched along the way.

Outside of nursing, Helen was truly one of a kind. She was adventurous, spontaneous, hilariously clumsy, and always good for a laugh. There was never a dull moment when Helen was around. Whether she was making everyone laugh, finding herself in another one of her unforgettable clumsy moments, or setting off on her next adventure, she had a way of turning ordinary days into lasting memories.

Helen was a Harley babe through and through. She loved her Harley-Davidson and the freedom, excitement, and adventure that came with it. Her love for her Harley was just another reflection of her free spirit and her passion for living life on her own terms. She had a wild side, a fun-loving heart, and a personality that was impossible to forget.

Helen also loved the simple pleasures in life: spending time outdoors, soaking up the sunshine, relaxing in her pool, and enjoying a cigarette. She loved traveling, especially to the ocean, where she could enjoy the sunshine, the waves, and the peacefulness of the water. Whether she was enjoying a beautiful summer day, spending time with family, or dreaming up her next adventure, Helen knew how to make the most of life's moments.

She was unapologetically herself, a little clumsy, a whole lot of fun, and full of stories that will continue to bring laughter and smiles for years to come.

Above all, Helen's greatest treasures were her family. She was a loving mother to her three children and a proud grandmother to her three grandchildren. The love she shared with them, the memories they made, and the laughter they enjoyed will forever remain in their hearts.

Helen is survived by her loving children, Garrett Ragusa, Tia Ragusa, and Bryan Ragusa; and her cherished grandchildren, Jaylyn Ragusa, Opal Todzia, and Cleo Todzia.

She is also survived by her siblings, Harry (Elva) VanGorder, Margie (Kevin) Mattison, Christopher (Mary Beth) VanGorder, Joseph VanGorder, Susan Brannon, and James (Grace Ann) VanGorder, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rose VanGorder, and her siblings, Ray (Sue) VanGorder, Norma (Randy) Personius, Paul VanGorder, and Edward VanGorder.

Helen's life was filled with laughter, adventure, love, and unforgettable moments. She will be remembered for her strength, her sense of humor, her clumsy mishaps, her love for her Harley, and her ability to make life a little more exciting for everyone around her.

There will be no traditional funeral service. Instead, Helen's life will be celebrated at the ocean, a place that reflects her love for sunshine, freedom, adventure, and the outdoors. Details of her celebration of life will be shared with family and friends at a later date.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Helen lived life in her own unforgettable way. She leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, memories, and love that will never fade.

So when you hear the rumble of a Harley, feel the warmth of the sunshine, hear the waves crashing against the shore, or find yourself laughing at life's unexpected moments, think of Helen.

Because somewhere, somehow, our Harley babe is still chasing the sunshine, finding her next adventure, and probably making someone laugh along the way.

Ride free, Mom. May the roads be endless, the sun always shine, and the ocean forever be waiting for you.

Patrick J. Galvin

Patrick James Galvin, 65, of Bath, passed away on Friday, October 2nd, 2026, in Bath, New York. Patrick was born in Urbana, NY on August 12th, 1961 to James and Geraldine Galvin. Patrick lived a life guided by unwavering faith in a profound love for God.

Patrick graduated from Haverling Central School in 1979. During his high school years, Patrick was an active and involved member of his school community. He participated in Student Council, proudly marched with the marching band, and enjoyed being part of both the football and basketball programs. His involvement reflected his enthusiasm for his school, his love of being part of a team, and the many lifelong friendships he made along the way. After high school, Patrick graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1983. Patrick served on the Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast, he was a “Deck Watch Officer,” performing law enforcement duties, primarily in the Caribbean. Patrick then married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Makitra Galvin on May 14th, 1985 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

After that, he transitioned to the Marine Safety field in New Orleans, Louisiana and then in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where he performed various marine safety and environmental protection duties, enforcing US laws and regulations, protecting US waters and ports

Patrick proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Lieutenant. In 1992, he received the gift of a kidney transplant, an experience that marked an important chapter in his life and gave him many more years to share with those he loved.

Following his medical retirement, Patrick and his wife, Marianne, moved their family to Penn Yan, New York, where they made their home and raised their two children, Gretchen and Peter. Their years in Penn Yan were filled with family, community, and countless cherished memories. Patrick found great joy in being a husband and father, and his love and devotion to his family remained at the heart of his life.

Patrick was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved fishing for salmon, steelhead and trout along the Salmon River in Pulaski, New York with his son, Peter, and his dearest friend, Tony Sinchak.

Patrick lived his life with a generous heart and a deep commitment to serving God and others. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and found great meaning in giving back to his community. Patrick generously volunteered his time and talents in many capacities, including supporting Foodlink and the Steuben Center. Through his service, kindness, and willingness to help others, he made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him. His compassion and spirit of giving will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As his Alpha Company from the Academy states, “Patrick was the kindest, most accepting person that we knew. He was an example and role model for the rest of us. We will forever love him and miss him, and we’ll all see him again.”

Patrick will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Marianne (Makitra) Galvin; his children, Gretchen Maass (Evan Maass) and Peter Galvin (Natalie Boutros); and his grandchildren, Silas Patrick Maass and Evangeline Freya Maass.

He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Colleen Gyr (Chris Gyr), Karen Groot (Randy Groot), Dean Galvin, and Diane Weber, as well as his in-laws, Katie Makitra-Ortiz, Robert Makitra, Michael Makitra, Jeanne Glass (Mike Glass), Sam Makitra (Melanie Makitra) and Francine Sinchak (Tony Sinchak).

Patrick was deeply loved by his many nieces and nephews, including Gigi, Oliver, Hannah, Sarah, Lexie, Danny, A.J., Heather, Audrey, Griffin, Jessie, Nick W., Aly, Tony, Jenni, Ryan, Jeana, Heather, Jennifer, Tony, Adam, Aaron, Megen, Shane, Noah, Nick S. and Paul. He is also survived by his beloved Aunt, Sister Ellen and many cousins. Patrick was predeceased by his parents.

Richard A. Cornell

Richard “Dick” Cornell, age 98, of Bath, NY went home to join his wife and heavenly Father September 22, 2026. Born Richard Cornell to Clyde and Helen Cornell of Corning, NY, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his son Rick, two granddaughters Courtney (Jennifer) Smith, Jennifer (Caleb) Bent and three great-grandsons - Ezra Bent, Jack and James Smith.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy, and daughter Beth Cornell-Smith (Paul), parents Clyde and Helen Cornell, sister Irene Hall, brothers Clyde and Bob Cornell.

Growing up on Corning’s northside he worked for NY Telephone Company as an installer repairman and eventually a Wire-Chief in Bath, NY. He married Dorothy at her family home in May of 1954. Moving from Caton to Liverpool, they eventually settled in Bath where he was a Wire Chief for the phone company. His time was split between being a parent, the phone company and a self-proclaimed “gentleman farmer”. He loved spending time and eventually moving to his home of more than 40 years on Mount Washington. It was on this property he would raise animals such as beef cattle, horses, rabbits, pigeons, peacocks, guinea fowl, emus, donkeys and mules. His favorite was a giant-donkey named Bud. Bud would follow him around the property as would a dog while Dick was doing chores. Dick and Bud were quite the pair when participating in mule-donkey shows and events into his 80s.

Growing up Dick enjoyed the outdoors and activities such as hunting and fishing. He was also an accomplished pistol marksmen at the Bath Rod and Gun club. He was also very active in the United Methodist Church of Bath, Steuben Historical Society, helping with many projects and events. He would prove to be be very active in the local Kiwanis Club, Old Time Mule and Donkey Club. As his children grew up, he was by their side helping with the 4H Horse club, teaching them to ride and take care of their own horses.

Dick and Dorothy loved being active and cherished their outdoor time at their “place on the hill” overlooking the Cohocton River valley. While spring and summer found him working on the hill and enjoying his animals. During the winter seasons he was known to strap on cross country skies and even go toboggining with the rest of his family. As he and Dorothy grew into a couple and eventually spouses, he loved spending time at the family cottage on Lamoka Lake. Fishing, boating, and activities such as playing cards with his wife and in-laws,

While on the whole he was a quiet man, once he knew someone, his personality would really shine. He had an unassuming sense of humor and could swap tales with the best of them. As he grew older, it might be said he never grew up. Even in his later years, he was known to flirt with restaurant and nursing home staff! When prodded, he would regale stories of his time the Marines such as when they were learning how to properly handle a gr***de and he threw a dummy gr***de into the midst of the recruits. Summing up his time in the Marines, he said, I don’t know who was happier to see me go – me or the Marines!

As per his wishes there will be no service but rather a celebration of his life at the Centenary United Methodist Church of Bath, October 9, 2026 at 6:00 PM . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Bath United Methodist Church or Finger Lakes SPCA in Bath.

George C. Hauryski

George C. Hauryski, 80, of Bath, New York, passed away on September 21, 2026, in the town he called home for much of his life. Born on June 2, 1946, in Bath, the son of the late John and Mary (Zyla) Hauryski. He was known to those who loved him as a friendly and wise man whose steady presence, generous spirit, and lifelong ties to his community left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

George lived a life marked by devotion to family, hard work, and simple pleasures that brought him great joy. He retired from the Bath Post Office after 25 years of service, where he was respected for his dedication and dependability. He also worked as a Real Estate Broker for 52 years, a remarkable career that reflected both his knowledge of the area and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Through his work, George built many lasting relationships and earned the trust of countless individuals and families.

Beyond his professional life, George found happiness in the things that made a house feel like home. He loved taking care of animals, especially his beloved dog, Iris, and his five cats. He had a special tenderness for animals and gave them the same patience and affection that he showed to the people in his life. George was also an avid collector, with interests that included antiques, model trains, stamps, books, and games. He enjoyed the stories and history found in each treasured item, and he took pleasure in surrounding himself with things that reflected his curiosity and appreciation for the past. He especially loved to read, and books remained a constant source of comfort, knowledge, and enjoyment throughout his life.

George is survived by his daughter, Michele Hauryski; his ex-wife, Susan Hauryski; his brother, Edwin Hauryski and his wife Colleen; his sister, Betty Hanssen and her husband Dave; his nieces, Christina, Brittany, and Annie; his nephews, Alex and Matthew; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Emma, Avril, Henryk and Deliah Joy who brought joy to his extended family. He held each of them close in his heart and valued the bonds of family throughout his life.

Those who knew George will remember his kind manner, his thoughtful advice, and the quiet wisdom he shared so naturally. His life was a reminder that strength can be gentle, and that a person's greatest legacy is often found in the way he treats others.

George's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude. He will be remembered with love, respect, and enduring affection by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at Fagan's Funeral Home on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 12:00-1:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm and burial in Seaman's Cemetery, Savona, NY.

Nancy C. Bradley

Nancy C. Bradley, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Bradford, New York, at the age of 85. She was born on October 4, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived a life marked by strength, devotion, and a spirited nature that those who knew her will always remember.

Nancy worked as a nurse at the Steuben County Infirmary in Bath, where she devoted many years to the service of others. Her career reflected the compassion and responsibility that were such important parts of who she was.

Outside of her work, Nancy found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. She loved working in her yard and tending to her flower gardens, where she spent many peaceful hours nurturing beauty and life. She also enjoyed fishing, a pastime that brought her quiet satisfaction and time to reflect.

Nancy is survived by her son, Steven R. Keefer, her daughter, Sharon Keefer, and her beloved granddaughters, Lynzee, Kourtney, and Kaelyn. She is also survived by her siblings, Tony, Michael, J.R., Jeanette, and Diane. Her family was an important part of her life, and she treasured the bonds they shared. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Bradley, and her sister, Charlotte. Their memories remained close to her heart, and now they are reunited in eternal rest.

Nancy will be remembered for her spirited personality, her dedication to her family, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Those words reflect the enduring place Nancy will hold in the lives of her family and friends. Though she has passed from this life, the love she gave, the work she did, and the memories she created will remain forever cherished.

Lee Andrew Jones

Lee Andrew Jones, a dedicated brother, uncle and friend, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, New York, after a long battle with several chronic illnesses. To the family, Lee was lovingly known as J.J.

Lee was born on November 13, 1967, in Shelby, Mississippi. He spent a few years in New York City, Hornell, NY and Corning, NY, before calling the Bath/Wheeler NY area his permanent home.

Lee was predeceased by his mother Margaree Jones, stepfather George Richmond, and nephew Jacory Jones.

Lee leaves behind: older brother William (Linda Whitson) Jones, and younger sister Angela Jones; as well as five nephews: Roy (Meghan) Williams, Emanuel Jones, Jarelle Jones, William DaQuan Jones and Tyrek W. Jones.

Leo spent many years working on local farms, and a few years employed by Steuben Janitorial Services. Lee was a familiar face walking the streets of Bath, NY and was well known for his love of telling stories of his many life adventures. Lee also greatly enjoyed medal detecting to find treasures throughout the village of Bath, NY.

In addition, Lee leaves behind a host of other family members, extended family members, loving friends, and special neighbors throughout the community of Bath, NY. Lee's presence will surely be missed, and his memory will be treasured by those who knew him.

There will be no service. A private celebration of life might be planned at a later date.
