There is a lot of misinformation being posted and shared right now given a local news story. Your strong reactions are a normal response, too. Unfortunately a postpartum experience often has to escalate to tragedy to get media attention.

Postpartum Psychosis is a serious medical emergency. However, most people who do experience PP do not harm themselves or anyone else. There is a risk of danger when psychosis includes delusional thinking and irrational judgement. Do NOT turn avoid a mama who is having a hard time.

It can be overwhelming as a spouse, a support person, or a family member, when a new mother is in crisis. BUT HELP IS AVAILABLE!!!

Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 833-852-6262. Available 24/7 to speak to a counselor trained in maternal mental health to help advise on next steps.

Just finished Kendhal Hart's Integrated EMDR and IFS Model: Level 1 training, and my system is buzzing! Curious about Internal Family Systems (IFS)? As a Level 1-trained IFS therapist, I will provide an introduction to the IFS model, including protectors, exiles, burdens, and the process of unblending from parts. Participants will explore symptoms and diagnoses through a compassionate, non-pathologizing lens while learning introductory IFS-informed interventions for clinical practice. This training includes both didactic and experiential learning to help participants develop both a conceptual and felt sense of the model.

🤍My system is filled with a deep sense of love and gratitude.🤍

I had the opportunity to spend the day at the LSU Hilltop Arboretum 🌿 with my friend and colleague, Angelique Barrow, MSW, LCSW, and a group of incredible women for our first IFS retreat. There was something truly special about gathering in that space—slowing down, turning inward, and witnessing the vulnerability, courage, and compassion that emerged throughout the day.

I’m so grateful for the trust each person brought into the room and for the chance to hold space for such meaningful inner work.

We’re already looking forward to offering more opportunities like this— including a retreat for therapists that is currently in the works.

Teens are trending toward less sleep, with the majority getting fewer than 8 hours a night and almost a quarter getting fewer than 5 hours a night. This is a concerning trend that impacts teens on multiple levels of development and functioning, including mental health.

“The lack of a link with the use of electronics was surprising to Bommersbach …Bommersbach isn't exactly sure what's behind this overall surge in less sleep but he speculates it could be earlier school start times, too many extracurricular demands, and less parental monitoring. Whatever the reason, he worries about its impact on teenage mental health and school performance.”

Nearly a quarter of teens sleep 5 hours or less per night and the majority sleep less than 8 hours. The problem is pervasive and technology doesn't seem to be the main culprit, according to a new report.
