We all have a preferred escape route. For some, it lives in a pharmacy bottle, a w**e glass, a double shot of espresso, an isolated room, or a well-crafted excuse.
Substances. Caffeine. S*x. Food. Impulse spending. Overworking. Intense workouts. Codependent dynamics. Chaos. Perfectionism. Extreme isolation. Constant avoidance.
The methods look entirely different, but the drive underneath is identical: they alter your internal state so you can temporarily bypass what is actually happening inside your body.
Some people sedate. Some overstimulate. Some stay locked in distraction. Some completely vanish. Some fill their calendars to maximum capacity so they never have to sit in the silence.
The defining question isn't, "What is your vice?"
The real question is: When discomfort hits your nervous system, where do you run? And what exactly are you running from?
That is where healing begins. Learning to sit with that and allow it is what creates transformational change and your leadership advantage.
