MCHHS Resident Care Center Committed to Person-Directed Care Through PEAK Program

At Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems (MCHHS), providing exceptional care goes beyond meeting medical needs. It means creating a place where residents feel valued, respected and truly at home. Through its participation in the Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas Nursing Homes (PEAK) program, the MCHHS Resident Care Center (RCC) continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those who live and work in long-term care.

The PEAK program is a Kansas initiative that encourages nursing homes to embrace person-directed care practices, placing residents at the center of decisions about their daily lives. The program focuses on creating a home-like environment where individual preferences, personal choices, meaningful relationships and independence are valued and supported.

For residents, person-directed care means having a voice in their daily routines, activities and personal preferences. These everyday choices help preserve dignity, independence and a sense of belonging while creating opportunities for meaningful connections with caregivers and fellow residents.

The program also recognizes the important role employees play in creating a positive living environment. By encouraging teamwork, communication and strong relationships, person-directed practices help foster a supportive workplace where employees feel valued and empowered.

Pamela Hollerich, RCC Director, states, “Our residents are more than the people we care for; they are part of our family. The PEAK program reinforces the importance of truly knowing each resident, honoring their individual choices and creating an environment where they feel valued and at home. I am incredibly proud of our team's dedication to making every day meaningful for those who live here.”

Participation in the PEAK program reflects the RCC team's ongoing commitment to providing compassionate, individualized care. At MCHHS, we believe everyone deserves to feel at home, have their voice heard and be treated with dignity and respect.
