Meet Jonathan Wolfrum, LMFT #102291, clinician and clinical supervisor at Evergreen.

Jonathan began his career as a high school biology teacher, where he realized that struggling students weren't lazy. They were carrying hardships no homework could fix. That insight led him to become a therapist.

At the heart of his work is a simple idea: self-criticism is the enemy of insight and growth. Accountability and kindness can coexist, and change comes more easily when they do.

Jonathan works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, OCD, ADHD, depression, and trauma, with an intellectual, non-judgmental, and explorative style.

If you're ready to meet Jonathan, book your complimentary consultation today. He sees clients via telehealth across California and Florida. https://taplink.cc/theevergreencounseling

Preparing and worrying can feel similar. They work very differently.

Preparing is concrete and has an end. You update your emergency kit, pick a meeting spot, and you’re done.

Worry is open-ended. It circles the same scenarios and rarely leaves you more ready.

Next time a fear shows up, ask: “Is there one concrete thing I can do about this today?”

If yes, do it. If not, name it as worry and gently return to what’s in front of you.

Is it anxiety, ADHD, or both?

October is ADHD Awareness Month. Adult ADHD, especially in women, often goes unrecognized for years, mistaken for anxiety, disorganization, or "not trying hard enough." And the two often overlap: a brain working overtime just to keep up can create a lot of anxiety along the way.

If you've long wondered whether something more than anxiety is going on, therapy can help you understand how your mind works. https://taplink.cc/theevergreencounseling

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Many people experience abuse that is mostly emotional or psychological, and because it's harder to name, it can take years to recognize.

Coercive control is a pattern used to dominate someone over time. Monitoring your phone or finances. Isolating you from friends and family. Making you doubt your own memory. Holding you responsible for their moods.

Living this way keeps the nervous system on constant alert, and the hypervigilance and self-doubt can linger long after the relationship ends. That's an understandable response, and it can be treated. Trauma-informed therapy can help you trust your own perceptions again and rebuild a sense of safety.

If you're in an unsafe situation, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24/7: 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.

"I'm so OCD."

Most of us have heard it, usually about a color-coded calendar or a spotless desk. But OCD isn't a personality quirk or a love of order.

It's a clinical condition involving unwanted intrusive thoughts and the compulsions, often invisible, that people use to quiet the distress those thoughts create. For many high-functioning professionals, it looks nothing like the stereotype: alarming, out-of-character thoughts followed by mental rituals no colleague would ever see.

Intrusive thoughts are not a reflection of who you are. And OCD is highly treatable

Meet Maia Shields, LCSW #125499.

"Safe and secure human connections help mitigate the impact of trauma," Maia says, and that belief shapes everything about how she works.

An LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming therapist with additional training as a domestic violence counselor, Maia integrates EMDR, CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness. She works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating complex trauma, anxiety, ADHD, people pleasing, and the aftermath of emotional abuse, with a warm, direct, and collaborative style.

Outside the therapy room, you'll find her baking, exploring the outdoors with her son, or training in Muay Thai.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

If you broke your arm, you wouldn't wait to see if it healed on its own, or wonder whether it was "bad enough" to see a doctor. Yet that's the calculation so many people make about their mental health, sometimes for years.

Seeking support isn't a sign that something is wrong with you. It's a sign you're taking your life seriously.

About 6 in 10 of our clients come to Evergreen as first-time therapy clients. If you're thinking about taking that first step, you're in good company.

If the world has felt louder lately, you're not imagining it.

Headlines about safety, politics, and climate arrive faster than any of us can process them. Your nervous system is built to scan for threat. It was never built for a 24-hour news cycle.

This October, we're talking about anxiety, uncertainty, and how to stay grounded when so much feels unsettled.

One thing we'll keep coming back to: therapy is a place for your personal worries and your fears about the wider world. Both belong in the room.

Follow along this month for tools you can use right away.

Not every difficult transition starts with something bad happening.

Sometimes getting something you wanted also means giving up something familiar. It’s normal for both of those things to be true at once.

If you’re having a harder time adjusting to a change than you expected, therapy can help. https://taplink.cc/theevergreencounseling
