August 28 Full Moon Ritual
Release • Reset • Receive
The Full Moon is a beautiful time to slow down, listen inward, and become aware of what you are ready to release. Think of this ritual as a moment to clear emotional and energetic space so you can move forward with greater intention.
You can do this ritual on August 28, or within a day or two of the Full Moon if that feels better for you.
What You'll Need
A white candle
A journal or piece of paper
A pen
A small bowl of water
A favorite crystal, if you use them
A quiet place where you will not be disturbed
1. Clear Your Space
Before beginning, gently clear the energy around you. Tidy your space, dim the lights, and silence your phone.
If you enjoy using incense, sage, palo santo, sound, or another cleansing practice, you can incorporate it here.
As you prepare your space, say:
“I release the energy that no longer belongs with me. I welcome peace, clarity, love, and guidance into this space.”
2. Light Your Candle
Sit comfortably and light your candle.
Take seven slow, deep breaths.
With every inhale, imagine yourself drawing in peaceful, beautiful energy.
With every exhale, imagine releasing tension, fear, worry, frustration, and anything you have been carrying that feels heavy.
Place your hand over your heart and ask yourself:
What am I ready to stop carrying?
Don't force an answer. Allow whatever comes into your awareness to simply be there.
3. Write Your Full Moon Release List
At the top of your paper write:
“Under this Full Moon, I am ready to release…”
Then begin writing.
You might release:
Fear of the unknown
Self-doubt
The need to control an outcome
Old resentment
Guilt
Comparison
A relationship or situation that has run its course
Habits that keep you stuck
Fear surrounding money or abundance
The need for someone else's approval
An old version of yourself you have outgrown
When you're finished, read your list quietly to yourself.
Then say:
“I acknowledge what these experiences have taught me. I release what I no longer need and make room for what is meant for me now.”
You can tear the paper into small pieces and discard it as a symbolic act of release. If you choose to burn it, only do so in a safe, fireproof container and never leave it unattended.
4. Cleanse With Water
Place your hands around your bowl of water.
Close your eyes and imagine the Full Moon's light surrounding you.
Visualize a soft white light beginning at the top of your head and slowly moving through your entire body.
Imagine it washing away old energy and leaving you feeling lighter.
Dip your fingertips into the water and gently touch your heart area.
Say:
“I cleanse the past. I return to the present. I trust where my soul is leading me.”
5. Ask Spirit One Question
Now become quiet.
Instead of asking ten questions, ask one:
“What do I most need to know as I move forward?”
Sit quietly for several minutes.
Notice the first word, thought, image, memory, feeling, or impression that comes to you.
Don't immediately analyze it.
Write it down.
Sometimes intuition whispers before the mind has an opportunity to explain it away.
6. Write What You're Ready to Receive
Turn to a fresh page and write:
“I am now making space for…”
Choose three things you want to welcome into your life.
For example:
I am making space for peace.
I am making space for abundance.
I am making space for new opportunities.
Then write one action you can take toward each intention.
The Full Moon ritual isn't only about asking the Universe for something. It's also about becoming willing to participate in creating it.
7. Full Moon Affirmations
Repeat each affirmation slowly:
I release what has completed its purpose in my life.
I trust what is leaving and welcome what is arriving.
I listen to my intuition and trust the guidance I receive.
I am worthy of love, peace, abundance, and beautiful new opportunities.
I do not have to know every step before taking the next one.
I trust divine timing.
I am open to signs, synchronicities, and unexpected blessings.
What is meant for me will find its way to me.
Closing the Ritual
Place both hands over your heart.
Take one final deep breath and say:
“Thank you for what has been. Thank you for what is. Thank you for what is coming. I release the need to know exactly how everything will unfold. I trust my intuition, I trust my path, and I move forward with an open heart. And so it is.”
Blow out your candle.
Then do something grounding—drink a glass of water, step outside, take a warm bath, or simply sit quietly for a few minutes.
One Last Full Moon Practice
Before going to sleep on August 28, write this question in your journal:
“What is my soul trying to show me next?”
Place the journal beside your bed.
Pay attention to your dreams, unexpected thoughts, conversations, repeating numbers, and synchronicities over the next several days.
Sometimes the answer arrives differently than we expected.
Release what was.
Trust what is.
Make room for what's next.
