Hormone Evaluation and Therapy at Bloom Integrative Wellness
Do you need a hormone therapy evaluation?
What are the signs and symptoms?
Perimenopause and menopause:
* Changes in menstrual cycle timing or flow
* Hot flashes
* Night sweats
* Sleep disruption
* Mood changes
* Vaginal dryness or discomfort
* Changes in s*xual desire
Some people also report difficulty concentrating or remembering, joint or muscle discomfort, or urinary symptoms. Symptoms vary, and they can have causes besides hormone changes.
Possible low testosterone in men (“andropause”):
* Reduced s*x drive
* Erectile difficulties or fewer spontaneous erections
* Low energy &/or fatigue,
* Reduced muscle mass
* Mood changes
* Difficulty concentrating
These symptoms can have other causes, too; diagnosis requires clinical evaluation and consistently low testosterone results.
What does a hormone evaluation include?
* Discussion of your symptoms
* Health history
* Physical assessment by a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner
* Body composition scan
* Lab work (lab draws available in-office)
* Medication options and Discussion specific to YOU
* Wellness goals
We’ll review your results together and discuss whether hormone therapy or another approach may be appropriate. Recommendations are based on your overall health—not lab numbers alone.
What are the potential benefits and risks of Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Hormone therapy may help relieve symptoms when treatment is appropriate. Benefits and risks vary based on your health history, symptoms, treatment type, and individual risk factors.
For women:
Menopausal hormone therapy may help with hot flashes, night sweats, related sleep disruption, vaginal dryness or discomfort, and bone health. Potential risks include blood clots, stroke, and—in some regimens and with longer use—breast cancer. Estrogen without protective therapy may increase the risk of cancer of the uterine lining in women who still have a uterus. Possible side effects include breast tenderness, nausea, and spotting.
For men:
Testosterone therapy may be considered when symptoms are present and consistently low testosterone has been confirmed. It may improve some symptoms of testosterone deficiency, such as low s*x drive. Risks include reduced s***m production and fertility, a high red blood cell count, and acne. Treatment also requires appropriate prostate and health monitoring.
Hormone therapy isn’t right for everyone. We’ll review potential benefits, risks, and alternatives with you and develop an individualized plan if treatment is appropriate.
