Wishing our clients, colleagues, and community a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.

We hope you're able to spend time with the people, traditions, and moments that matter most to you this holiday weekend.

Grief and trauma are often spoken about together, but they move through us differently. Grief asks for space to feel and process loss. Trauma asks for safety and steadiness before deeper work can begin.

Understanding what you’re carrying can shape how healing unfolds.

Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

It is a day of remembrance, reflection, and honoring Black resilience and joy.

At CICA, we recognize that history and mental health are deeply connected. Today we acknowledge the significance of Juneteenth and the ongoing work toward equity and justice.

Lisa joined CICA in 2018 as its first independently licensed clinical psychotherapist and has continued to evolve alongside the practice ever since.

Her work centers trauma, anxiety, depression, and the layered impact of systemic and relational stressors. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she extends care to individuals and families seeking culturally attuned support — often to communities where access has historically been limited.

Today, Lisa serves as CICA’s Peer Consultant while maintaining her own solo practice and continuing advanced training in early relational health. Whether working with clinicians or clients, her focus remains the same: thoughtful, steady support that helps people feel seen and understood.

Changes in routine can quietly affect mood, focus, and energy. Even positive shifts take mental bandwidth. A few small adjustments can make transitions feel steadier.

If you’re feeling more off than expected, talking it through can help you recalibrate.

Couples therapy offers structured time to slow conversations down and understand what’s happening underneath recurring tension.

It can help partners clarify expectations, repair communication patterns, and move through conflict with more steadiness and less escalation.

At CICA, couples work is collaborative and focused on creating practical shifts that feel sustainable outside the therapy room.

If you’re considering support for your relationship, we’re here to help.

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

Many men are taught to manage stress quietly — to handle pressure, solve problems, and move forward without pausing. Over time, that can make it harder to name what’s building underneath.

Conversations around mental health don’t diminish strength. They support it.

Summer brings more light, more movement, and often more expectations. Paying attention to pace, pressure, and routine can make a meaningful difference in how the season feels. Mental health doesn’t take a vacation — steady habits help support it.

Therapy rarely creates dramatic overnight change. More often, it shifts how you understand yourself — and those shifts accumulate over time. Awareness grows.

Language strengthens. Reactions feel less automatic. The work is gradual, collaborative, and deeply personal.

Beginning therapy can feel uncertain. The first session is a space to share what’s bringing you in, clarify goals, and get a sense of fit. The process unfolds collaboratively, with attention to your context and pace.

If you’ve been considering reaching out, learning what to expect can make the first step feel more approachable.
