💜 June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 💜

More than 55 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and research shows that healthy habits, including regular physical activity 🚶‍♀️, , may help support brain health and reduce the risk of cognitive decline.

As physical therapists, we see the powerful connection between movement and overall wellness every day. Exercise can help improve:
🧠 Cognitive function
⚖️ Balance & fall prevention
💪 Strength & mobility
😊 Mood & quality of life

This month, we encourage everyone to take small steps toward better brain health:
✔️ Move your body daily
✔️ Prioritize sleep
✔️ Stay socially connected
✔️ Talk with your healthcare provider about memory concerns

Let’s continue raising awareness, supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s, and working toward a future without dementia. 💜

🏃‍♀️🌎 GLOBAL RUNNING DAY 🌎🏃‍♂️

Running is for EVERYONE — every pace, every distance, every goal. 💥

Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of movement that encourages people of all ages and abilities to get moving and experience the physical and mental benefits of running. Whether it’s a marathon, a jog around the block, a treadmill walk/run, or your very first mile — it all counts.

As Physical Therapists, we know running can:
✅ Improve cardiovascular health
✅ Build strength and endurance
✅ Support joint and bone health
✅ Reduce stress and boost mental wellness
✅ Increase confidence and overall quality of life

💡 Tips to keep your runs healthy and injury-free:
👟 Wear supportive footwear
🏃 Gradually increase mileage
🦵 Strength train to support your joints
💧 Stay hydrated
🛌 Prioritize recovery and sleep
🚨 Don’t ignore pain that persists

Remember: you do NOT have to be fast to be a runner. Movement is movement, and every step matters. ❤️

So lace up, get outside, and celebrate the joy of moving today! 🌟

❤️🫀 WORLD HEART RHYTHM WEEK 🫀❤️

Your heart has a rhythm — and movement helps keep it strong. 💪

This week is all about raising awareness for heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) and encouraging healthier habits for lifelong heart health. Arrhythmias can cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly, sometimes leading to symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, palpitations, or decreased exercise tolerance.

As Physical Therapists, we see firsthand how safe movement and exercise can support cardiovascular health, improve endurance, reduce stress, and help patients feel more confident staying active. 🚶‍♂️🏃‍♀️🧘

💡 Simple ways to support your heart health:
✔️ Stay physically active
✔️ Manage stress levels
✔️ Prioritize sleep
✔️ Eat a heart-healthy diet
✔️ Attend regular medical checkups
✔️ Pay attention to symptoms like dizziness, chest discomfort, or unusual fatigue

Early awareness matters. Listening to your body and staying active can make a huge difference. ❤️

Let’s keep hearts healthy, strong, and moving! 💥

🧠 JUNE WPC 2026 UPDATE: THE CURRENT STATE OF THE SCIENCE

I came home from the World Parkinson Congress with pages and pages of notes, my head spinning from everything I learned, and one overwhelming thought:
Parkinson's research is changing faster than most people realize.

Over four days, I listened to researchers from around the world discuss everything from alpha-synuclein and genetics to disease-modifying therapies, biomarkers, precision medicine, and stem cell research.

The science is moving quickly. And while some of it can be incredibly complex, the message is actually quite hopeful:

We're learning more than ever before about what causes Parkinson's disease, how to detect it earlier, how to classify it more accurately, and how to develop treatments that
may someday slow—or even prevent—disease progression.

To help make sense of it all, I've created a 6-part blog series breaking down some of the most important scientific updates from the conference in plain English.

📖 The Series:
1️⃣ Parkinson's Research is Changing Faster Than Most People Realize
2️⃣ Why Everyone Is Talking About Alpha-Synuclein
3️⃣ Is Parkinson's Genetic?
4️⃣ A New Way to Classify Parkinson's Disease
5️⃣ The Race Toward Disease-Modifying Therapies
6️⃣ Are We Getting Closer to a Cure?

If you're interested in an update on the current Parkinson's research, take a look!

This Pride Month, we celebrate movement, inclusion, and the strength that comes from being authentically YOU 🌈💙

Physical therapy is for every body — every identity, every background, every journey. As PTs, we strive to create safe, welcoming spaces where all individuals feel supported, respected, and empowered to reach their goals.

Pride is about community, resilience, and showing up for one another — values that are at the heart of healthcare too.

This June, and every month, we stand for compassionate care, equitable access, and helping people move through life with confidence and dignity. 🌟

Happy Pride Month from your PT community! 🏳️‍🌈

I learned SO much at the 7th World Parkinson Congress — but one of my biggest goals coming home was making sure I could take all of that information, digest it, organize it, and share it in a way that is practical and meaningful for the people living with Parkinson’s and the people who care for them.

So this summer, I’m launching a 3-part blog series:
✨ WPC 2026: Bringing it Home

Over the next 3 months, I’ll be sharing some of my biggest takeaways from the conference — from the latest Parkinson’s research and emerging science, to what the evidence says about exercise, cognitive rehab, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine, to the very real challenge of turning recommendations into sustainable habits and long-term lifestyle change. Here's a glimpse of what's coming

🧠 June: The Current State of the Science
🏃 July: Lifestyle Medicine in Parkinson’s
💡 August: Making it Stick

One of the most powerful themes throughout the conference was this:
We already know many of the things that HELP in Parkinson’s… but their impact depends just as much on helping people successfully integrate those things into real life.

I’m excited to share what I learned — and even more excited to help translate it into practical strategies, hope, and action.
