Mills-Peninsula Health Services is one of the most modern, innovative and technologically advanced hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area. Located on the San Francisco Peninsula, we are part of the Sutter Health network of not-for-profit hospitals and physician organizations in Northern California. To meet the growing needs of the community, in 2011 the new 241-bed Mills-Peninsula Medical Center

opened its doors. Located in Burlingame, the $640 million, 450,000-square-foot general acute-care hospital features:

• All private rooms with state-of-the-art patient lift technology for safety
• Electronic patient charting and online capabilities for advanced patient-physician-family communication
• An Emergency Department
• Family sleeping accommodations in all medical/surgical, obstetric, intensive care and neonatal intensive care rooms
• Advanced earthquake technology that allows the hospital to withstand an 8.5 quake and remain functional

The new hospital is connected with an approximately 180,000-square foot medical office building

Mills-Peninsula also operates the Mills Health Center in San Mateo, which provides a wide range of outpatient services, including surgery, rehabilitation and diagnostics. The Mills Health Center is also home to Mills-Peninsula’s inpatient rehabilitation program.

During National Critical Care Awareness and Recognition Month, we’re recognizing the ICU teams across Sutter Health who provide lifesaving care during patients’ most vulnerable moments. 💙

From trauma and respiratory failure to infection and organ failure, critical care demands extraordinary coordination, clinical expertise and compassion. Through early recognition and rapid treatment, Sutter clinicians helped save 772 lives in the past year among patients with septic shock—the most severe form of sepsis.

In 2026, multiple Sutter hospitals were also recognized by Healthgrades for superior outcomes in critical care and sepsis treatment.

Thank you to our ICU teams for the skill, resilience and humanity you bring to patients and families every day.
