Should athletic trainers be giving up their Saturday mornings for football treatments?
A conversation in a secondary school AT Facebook group this weekend got me thinking about something bigger than Saturday treatments.
How much control do we actually have over our own schedules and the services we provide?
I'm not necessarily against Saturday treatments. There are legitimate reasons they can be valuable.
But I do question doing things simply because that's how they've always been done.
We talk a lot about professional autonomy in athletic training. I think that needs to include having a meaningful say in how, when, and why we provide care.
I wrote more about this in this week's Athletic Trainer Finder Weekly Newsletter, along with 104 new athletic trainer jobs.
For the secondary school ATs: Do you offer Saturday morning treatments? If so, is it because you've determined they're necessary, or because it's always been expected?
