Vermont Oxford Network (VON) is a nonprofit voluntary collaboration of health care professionals working together as an interdisciplinary community to change the landscape of neonatal care. Founded in 1988, VON is now comprised of teams of health professionals representing neonatal intensive care units and level I and II care centers around the world, in support of our mission to improve the quali

Our members are the heart of VON. We share with you some of our quality improvement teams telling us why QI with VON is different. As we shift to Quality Improvement for all in 2027, we look forward to showing you how data, QI structure, and most importantly, community can help improve the care and outcomes of infants and their families.

Our network wide collaborative, Project Warm Welcome, will launch in 2027. We know the power of community and collaboration. All centers working together to ensure infants are admitted to the NICU in the normal temperature range of 36.5-37.5c, has the potential to improve the lives and outcomes of 50,000 infants and their families each year.

Stay tuned throughout the coming months to learn all about the resources VON will be sharing for Project Warm Welcome. In the meantime, you can learn more on our website: https://bit.ly/VONPWW27

Did you know? It is possible to see your data over time more often than annually. Annual reports are valuable for looking at long-term trends, but they aren’t always enough. Sometimes, NICUs need to see what’s happening in real time to drive change. That’s why VON offers Time Series Reporting — discharge date–based data that allows centers to view outcomes on a rolling, more specific timeline. This flexibility means your team can detect trends sooner, test changes, watch for practice drift, and measure improvement without waiting for year-end reports.

This additional reporting tool is free of charge to our members. Time series is so helpful for quality improvement programs-sign up now and be set up for success for Project Warm Welcome in 2027!

On our next VON Grand Rounds webinar and discussion, Dr. Scott Guthrie will join Dr. Roger Soll to discuss alternative surfactant administration strategies. Dr. Guthrie will share practical lessons learned from disseminating SALSA, a surfactant delivery technique using a supraglottic device, across low- and middle-income countries. He will discuss how this method can be integrated and rapidly implemented in high-resource NICUs. The session will highlight practical insights and the tools needed to implement SALSA in either setting.

Continuing education is available for attending the live event.

Quality improvement in the NICU takes a whole team...including the parents. Parents are the primary caregivers for their baby and should have a spot at the table for changes that affect babies in the short and long term. We encourage you to not only make space at your table for graduate parents, but to include them in your team at the VON Quality Congress this fall. Family partners receive free registration for the Quality Congress.
