The FDA just reversed more than 20 years of warnings around hormone replacement therapy for women.
And this is a much bigger story than menopause.
In the early 2000s, results from the Women’s Health Initiative scared millions of women and their doctors away from hormone therapy.
The problem was the average woman in those trials was 63, more than a decade older than the age when most women enter menopause. The results were then used to make broad warnings about hormone therapy for women in general.
Now the FDA has removed black boxed warning language about breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and probable dementia from menopausal hormone therapy products.
It took more than 20 years!
