Peggy was such a sweet lady. Although her time with us was very short, we were blessed to have been chosen as her caregivers. Everyone got the chance to just sit and hold her hand, and she was always quick to give us an “Amen!” All of Peggy’s compassion and dedication to her nursing career came full circle when bringing her back to the Stuart House. The Stuart House became a place where she could spend her last days receiving love and care much like she provided when she was the nurse working there. While she was with us, she was able to reconnect with a couple of other residents who were her colleagues when she was a Stuart House DON. God gave Peggy her wings, and may she now rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and Jill and all of Peggy’s family. May God grant them peace in their time of grieving. 🙏

Words could never express how deeply saddened we are for the loss of our “uncle Dale”. He made everyone laugh, and his smile and that twinkle in his eyes could earn him just about any snack he wished to have. Our time loving Dale has been full of adventure, and many a story…none we shall ever forget. May he fly high with his newly gained wings. I think we all can hear him singing his favorite late night songs in our heads right now, and share a knowing smile. Gone but never forgotten, your Stuart House family will love you always. Our deepest condolences to Carmen and Anita who became an extension of our family. May he rest in peace.🙏

Recently, we’ve had a few employees better themselves via obtaining their Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. It’s not like it used to be when I obtained mine! They must know a lot more now. Not only is it an awesome feat, but it also enables them to offer better care to the residents, and allows them a stepping stone should they decide to further their health careers. Congrats to Kamdyn Steffen, Addie White, Natasha Peters, Jessica Fricke and one more who has almost completed it, Ella Gregory.

While we take care of those in the later years of life we also help support younger one’s hobbies. Admittedly, advertising doesn’t work well in our industry. Reputation and word of mouth goes a lot further so we choose to put our pennies into our staff and a few dreams. Weekly, I’m chided about my name and I just roll with it. I actually have a friend named Jim Johnson, so I always add a little more to the story. A tire, some oil or a racing suit goes a long way to a small budget racing team. One of those teams is in the video. Timothy Smith of Rocheport, MO. I’ve known his mom since high school and the family is one of those where we all wish we had a bed upstairs. Grandpa Jerry just got inducted into the Sprint Car Hall-of-Fame! True ambassador’s of the sport! They are just one of over 10 others I’ve helped over the years. We start out young, too, with the likes of Brant Brooks, an employees grandson. So, when one thinks about the checkered flags at the end of life it isn’t just one long endurance race. It’s many compiled into one that brought memories, laughter and tears. No matter the race you are running the key is learning to be ready to race the next one.

My career as a nursing home administrator started in 1990 when I ran The Stuart House for my mom. I knew how to mow the grass and unclog a toilet! The rest I learned along the way. The charge nurse at the time was none other than this lady…Peggy Adkisson. Life comes full circle. We learned a lot working together a few years. At that time Joanne Bettenhausen was the RN consultant and one of the aides was Faye Daum and a cook was Maurine Hargis. Joanne is no longer with us but we cherished the time we had with her. The others are with us now. I’m sure they never imagined being a resident but these ladies helped build The Stuart House into what it is today. I will be forever grateful for the legacy they helped my mom start in 1983…
