Some heroes wear scrubs, others have four paws and a knack for bringing comfort to every moment🐾

We teamed up with the Charlotte Knights to celebrate teammates from the pet therapy program at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital.

Our team of facility dogs, Sage, Atlas and Sprout stepped up to the plate and stole the show in a home run moment that was a testament to the impact of Levine Children's Hospital's Happy2Heal pet therapy program.

Fans lined up to meet our team and learn more about our pet therapy program and walked away with special baseball cards, custom bandanas and lots of joy. From sharing cuddles to showing off a few tricks, our pups brought the same joy they bring to patients within hospital walls to the ballpark.

Thank you to the Charlotte Knights and everyone who celebrated alongside us for helping us shine a spotlight on these incredible dogs who truly make a difference.

What a special night at the ballpark ❤️

Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital facility dogs Sage, Atlas and Sprout and their handlers, Hailey, Christina and Becca — part of Levine Children's Hospital's Happy2Heal pet therapy program, got a very well-deserved night of recognition at the Charlotte Knights' Dog Days of Summer game. There was no shortage of cuddles and smiles during their meet and greet, where fans got to soak up some puppy love and learn more about a program that helps patients navigate some of the toughest challenges in their health journey.

Moments like these are a reminder that their impact stretches far beyond the walls of our hospital and into the heart of our entire community.

We’re so grateful to the Charlotte Knights for recognizing our facility dogs as the all-stars they truly are.

Even with the love of family and the expertise of a care team, a hospital stay can feel overwhelming – especially for kids.

At Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, our facility dogs Sage, Atlas and Sprout bring more than wagging tails – they bring comfort, calm and a sense of normalcy when our patients need it most.

Through Levine Children's Hospital's Happy2Heal pet therapy program, our specially trained four-legged friends are part of the care team that supports patients through every step of their health journey. From easing anxiety before procedures to helping patients build strength during therapy, they meet kids where they are—turning tough moments into something a little more paws-itive.

Every tail wag, cuddle and high-five helps make the hospital feel a little more like home. Working side-by-side with their dedicated handlers, these pups are always ready to step up to the plate.

Tomorrow, these all-stars will be recognized as the real MVPs they are at the Charlotte Knights game as we celebrate the Dog Days of Summer!🐶⚾️

Join us for a meet & greet, grab custom baseball cards and bandanas, and cheer them on as they take the center stage on their special night.❤️

Nora is a bright, funny, creative and resilient 10-year-old who loves spending time with friends and being outdoors, especially riding her bike, swimming and playing soccer. She especially loved being a goalie and even sleeps with a soccer ball pillow every night.

In October 2025, what started as unusual rashes and swelling after bug bites quickly turned into something much more serious. After a visit to urgent care, Nora was rushed to the emergency room and then transported by ambulance to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, where her family learned she was facing kidney failure. Within days, Nora was diagnosed with IgA Vasculitis with Nephritis (HSP), a condition where the body’s immune system causes swelling in blood vessels and can affect how the kidneys work. This began a journey that would include dialysis, blood transfusions, chemotherapy treatments and multiple hospital admissions.

Over the next several months, Nora faced daily medications, school schedule changes, dietary restrictions and extra precautions due to being immunocompromised. Through it all, her family says what stands out most is her bravery and ability to “keep it real,” remaining positive while also being honest about when things feel hard.

One of the most meaningful milestones came after weeks in the hospital, when Nora got to ring the bell on the kidney floor following her first admission, a moment of celebration during an incredibly difficult season. Along the way, she’s learned something many adults spend years understanding: you never truly know what someone else may be going through.

Nora has faced more than any child should at her age, yet she continues to move forward with grace, courage and resilience. We’re honored to celebrate her journey and share in another milestone as this lifelong soccer fan attends her very first Charlotte FC game and is being celebrated as our Honorary Captain of the game.

At 5 years old, Joseph approaches the world with a curiosity and joy that’s impossible to miss. Even through life's toughest moments, his family has always known him to be the same bright, social boy.

Shortly after he was born, Joseph was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital after having trouble breathing. In his first few weeks, his family quickly learned how complex his care would be — multiple surgeries to open his airway, months of specialized support and the beginning of a journey shaped by a rare diagnosis, Crouzon syndrome.

As Joseph grew, so did the coordination behind his care. He was supported by teams across Levine Children’s with each step focused not just on treating individual conditions, but helping him continue to develop.

After requiring a tracheostomy and becoming dependent on a G-tube for feeding, Joseph faced ongoing challenges with swallowing — something that impacted daily life for his entire family.

Through Levine Children’s multidisciplinary feeding program, his care team worked alongside Joseph and his family to rebuild those skills: improving his swallowing, helping reduce aspiration risk and supporting a transition to safe, independent eating.

Now, Joseph is getting ready to make new friends and just simply be a kid as he prepares to take on kindergarten.

Joseph and his family helped us celebrate an incredible milestone by cutting the ribbon at Levine Children’s new therapy center, a place that brings speech, occupational, physical and feeding therapy together in one location — designed to simplify care for families and strengthen the way teams work together to support each child.

The kind of coordinated care that helped Joseph learn to eat and build strength is now here to help more children across our community reach milestones that once felt uncertain.

Joseph, we are so proud to be part of your story and can’t wait to see all that’s ahead ❤️

Harlow’s journey is a reminder that bravery comes in all sizes.

Last April, Harlow’s family faced an unexpected and frightening journey when he began experiencing unexplained swelling. They turned to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with nephrotic syndrome, a serious kidney disorder.

Through treatments, infusions and ongoing challenges, Harlow has shown remarkable strength and courage. He has never faced a moment alone, surrounded by the love of his family and the expert care team at Levine Children’s every step of the way.

Fresh off his first soccer season, Harlow was ready for match day. He and his parents attended their very first Charlotte FC match, and we are proud to celebrate his strength and winning spirit alongside a Charlotte FC win!

A magical day at Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital🎩✨

Patients at Levine Children's Hospital joined in on a fun afternoon of magic during a special show by the magnificent Rob, from Celtic Hearts Magic at Seacrest Studios.

From the very first trick, patients in the studio and those tuning in from their rooms lit up with laughter and amazement as Rob turned an ordinary afternoon into a magical one. A few of our brave patients even stepped into the spotlight to assist with a trick or two—pulling bunnies out of hats and impressing us with their amazing talent.

Thank you, Rob, for reminding us all that a little magic goes a long way.❤️

“It’s not the events that change your life, it’s how you interpret them.”

These are the words that 18-year-old Alex lives by. At just 14 years old, his life changed after an accident at wrestling camp left him with a permanent cervical spinal cord injury. His future suddenly looked very different.

He spent the months that followed at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, beginning a long and challenging journey on the inpatient rehabilitation unit.

At Levine Children’s Hospital, Alex learned what many take for granted. Through the support of his care team, family and an incredible amount of determination, he rebuilt his independence step by step — from feeding himself and sitting up on his own, to using his voice to control an iPad so he could keep up with school and stay connected to the things he loves.

His determined mindset — shaped in part by his years in wrestling — has fueled everything he’s accomplished since. Including one goal that meant a lot to him: showering independently.

Working alongside Levine Children’s patient advocate Mike Daly and the pediatric rehabilitation team, Alex designed and built an adaptive showerhead using the hospital’s 3D printer. Through trial and error, sketches, prototypes and persistence, the idea became a reality — a device that not only supports his independence, but has the potential to help other patients just like him.

It’s no surprise that Alex plans to continue building and creating. This fall, he’ll head to Clemson University to study engineering — becoming the first in his family to graduate high school and attend college 👏

He’s already thinking about what more he can do.

Alex, we are so proud to be a part of your journey. We can’t wait to see what you create next! ❤️
