Hearing loss is linked to cognitive decline and dementia. The strain on your brain shows shrinkage in memory and balance areas.

First, we are talking about cognitive overload. I hear this in clinic all the time from patients. A dinner out to eat with an untreated hearing loss can be absolutely exhausting.

Then you have the balance piece. We know that soft sounds provide envrironmental awareness and that is essential for our situational awareness.

Isn't it interesting that hearing loss can have such a ripple effect across a body, but it's still treated like an optional disease to manage. "Come see me when you are ready" "It's mild, so let's check it again next year" ...

Those don't sit well with me. I now view hearing healthcare as preventative healthcare. It's improving quality of life mentally and physically and it's impacting longevity.
