Hoy celebramos 36 años de la Ley para Estadounidenses con Discapacidades (ADA), firmada el 26 de julio de 1990: un paso histórico en la lucha por los derechos civiles de las personas con discapacidad.

Como madre de un joven con discapacidad, celebro lo que hemos avanzado, pero también reconozco que el camino todavía tiene obstáculos. Persisten barreras de acceso, oportunidades limitadas, prejuicios y sistemas que muchas familias deben aprender a navegar casi solas.

Por eso, a través de HABILIDADX, buscamos crear espacios donde las personas con discapacidad y sus familias encuentren apoyo, conexión, descanso, recursos y oportunidades para hacer escuchar su voz.

Porque una persona con discapacidad no necesita lástima.
Merece respeto. Merece oportunidades. Merece pertenecer.

Hoy celebramos la ADA, pero también renovamos nuestro compromiso de seguir derribando barreras. 💚

Tu historia importa. Tu descanso importa. Tu comunidad importa.



Today, we celebrate 36 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law on July 26, 1990—a historic milestone in the fight for the civil rights of people with disabilities.

As the mother of a young man with a disability, I celebrate how far we have come, while also recognizing that many obstacles remain. Barriers to access, limited opportunities, stigma, and complex systems still leave many families trying to find their way with little support.

That is why, through HABILIDADX, we work to create spaces where people with disabilities and their families can find support, connection, rest, resources, and opportunities to make their voices heard.

Because a person with a disability does not need pity.
They deserve respect. They deserve opportunities. They deserve to belong.

Today, we celebrate the ADA, and we also renew our commitment to continue breaking down barriers. 💚

Your story matters. Your rest matters. Your community matters.

Hay despedidas que no elegimos.

Y, con el tiempo, descubrimos lugares donde volvemos a sentir que pertenecemos.

Anabel Paniagua-Doyle dejó El Salvador siendo adolescente, en medio de la guerra civil. Años después, construyó una vida dedicada al servicio de los demás.

Pero no fue hasta llegar a Charlotte que encontró algo que había estado buscando sin saberlo: una comunidad de colegas latinoamericanos unidos para abrir caminos y apoyar a quienes llegaron después.

Porque pertenecer no siempre significa volver al lugar de donde venimos. A veces significa encontrar personas que comparten nuestros valores, propósito y esperanza.

There are goodbyes we never choose.

And sometimes, life leads us to places where we discover that we belong again.

Anabel Paniagua-Doyle left El Salvador as a teenager during the civil war. Years later, she built a life dedicated to serving others.

But it was not until she arrived in Charlotte that she found something she had been searching for without realizing it: a community of Latino professionals united to open doors and support those who came after them.
