Three generations. One commitment. A legacy of giving back. 💚

For Bill Crowder Jr., supporting Alexander Youth Network has always been personal.

Growing up, Bill watched his father dedicate his time and resources to helping children and families in our community. Through attending events and seeing the impact firsthand, he learned early on what it means to show up for kids who need someone in their corner.

That lesson stayed with him. As an adult, Bill found his own ways to serve, becoming a volunteer, joining our Lunch Buddy program, and building meaningful relationships with children who needed encouragement and consistency. His commitment to Alexander Youth Network continued to grow as he served as a former board member and board chair, while also providing longtime financial support that helps strengthen our mission and expand the services available to children and families.

Now, that commitment continues with the next generation. Bill’s son, Will, is carrying forward this family tradition of service as a current board member, creating his own impact and helping advance the mission of Alexander Youth Network.

What began as one father leading by example has grown into a three-generation legacy of caring for children, supporting families, and investing in brighter futures.

As Bill shared, “There is no better way to spend your time and efforts than changing somebody’s life.”

Ever wonder why it's called Juneteenth? 💚🖤❤️

The answer is in the name: June + Nineteenth.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free.
Think about that.
Freedom had already been declared, yet thousands were still waiting for the news.

Juneteenth marks the day that news arrived. Today, it stands as a reminder of resilience, progress, and the power of knowledge, opportunity, and community.
As we recognize Juneteenth, we honor the generations who persevered and the ongoing work to create a future where every child has the chance to thrive, dream, and be seen.

💚 Alexander Youth Network's First Career Day Was One to Remember 💚

Yesterday, our children got a glimpse of what their futures could look like.

The day kicked off with celebrity comedian B Daht, who had the room laughing, engaged, and excited from the moment they walked into the gym. His energy helped break the ice and set the stage for a day filled with learning and inspiration.

From firefighters and police officers to chefs, entrepreneurs, authors, nurses, photographers, bankers, and business owners, our youth had the opportunity to meet professionals from all walks of life, ask questions, hear their stories, and explore careers they may have never considered before.

🏳️‍🌈 This Pride Month, we're shining a light on our affiliates making a difference for youth across North Carolina: Youth Focus and The Relatives.

When a young person is facing homelessness, having access to the right support can change everything.

Through emergency housing, crisis services, mental health support, education assistance, and job readiness programs, Youth Focus and The Relatives help young people find stability and move toward a brighter future.

This work is especially important for LGBTQIA+ youth, who are disproportionately affected by homelessness and often face additional barriers to finding support.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to feel safe, valued, and hopeful about what comes next.

Thank you to the dedicated teams at Youth Focus and The Relatives for the care, compassion, and commitment you bring to youth every day. 💚

🎓 What does leadership development look like in action?

The Alexander Leadership Institute allows employees to learn from experienced leaders, gain new perspectives, strengthen workplace skills, and build relationships with colleagues across Alexander Youth Network, Youth Focus Inc, and The Relatives

In this video, you'll hear from Chief People & Culture Officer and Leadership Institute Instructor, Sandy Pizarro, and graduates Freddie Roberts Jr. and Maggie Atkins Cook as they share how the experience challenged them, strengthened their leadership abilities, and prepared them for what's next.

Programs like these help prepare staff for new opportunities, broaden their understanding of our organizations, and encourage them to think beyond their current roles.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! Thank you for your commitment to learning and for taking this next step in your professional journey.

Behind every tough moment is a story that deserves understanding, not judgment.

For many children, what we see on the outside is only part of what is happening underneath. Big emotions, challenging behaviors, or moments of shutdown are often signals, not the whole story.

During PTSD Awareness Month, we’re reminded that trauma can shape how a child responds to the world around them. What looks like defiance may actually be fear. What looks like withdrawal may be protection. What looks like “acting out” may be a child trying to cope with experiences they don’t yet have words for.

At Alexander Youth Network, we focus on seeing the full picture. We create space for children to feel safe, supported, and understood while they build healthier ways to express what they are carrying.

🚨 Career Day is almost here, and this year's lineup is incredible!

On June 18, our youth will have the opportunity to meet professionals from all walks of life, hear their stories, ask questions, and explore careers they may have never considered before.

From business owners and entrepreneurs to chefs, healthcare professionals, creatives, community leaders, and local changemakers, these volunteers are helping our youth see that their future has no limits.

Every career has a story behind it. On June 18, our youth will get a front-row seat to hear those stories and discover new possibilities for their own futures.
