Men account for the majority of su***de deaths in the United States, and fi****ms remain the most common method used. Many su***de crises are brief, but access to a highly lethal method can turn a temporary crisis into a permanent loss.

If you or someone you care about is experiencing emotional distress, depression, substance use challenges, major life changes, or thoughts of su***de, consider creating time and space between the person and a firearm until the crisis has passed.

Examples include:
• Storing fi****ms unloaded and secured in a safe or using a firearm lock
• Separating fi****ms from ammunition
• Utilizing temporary storage options available in your community, visit https://www.lockandtalk.org/safe-storage-map to find a location near you.

Safe firearm storage is not about taking away rights. It's about protecting lives during difficult moments and ensuring there is time for support, treatment, and recovery.

Need support now? Call or text 988 anytime.

June is and starting today, it is ! 🗓️ This is the perfect time to take a step back and reflect on how we can better support mental health and su***de prevention among men.

Reach out to the men in your life and check in on them. Reassure them that it’s okay to have a hard time, that they're never alone, and that help is always available. Let’s look out for each other through both the good times and the hard times. 💙

One Conversation Can Save a Life.

Many people who experience thoughts of su***de feel overwhelmed, isolated, or hopeless.

🗣️Reaching out and listening without judgment can help someone feel less alone.

If you're concerned about someone, ask directly and compassionately if they are thinking about su***de. Research shows that asking does not increase risk—it can help connect someone to support. Learn more about ways to start those important conversations at lockandtalk.org.
