November preview: This month, let's talk about lung cancer.

💙 November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and this month we're taking a closer look at a disease that affects hundreds of thousands of Americans every year.

What actually happens when someone develops lung cancer? Why does it occur? What's the difference between the types of lung cancer? How does it spread? And how do medical imaging examinations help physicians understand what's happening inside the body?

Throughout November, we'll explore:
🫁 The basics: What lung cancer is and the different types.
🔬 The causes: Smoking, radon, environmental exposures, and other risk factors.
🧬 The progression: How cancer cells grow, form tumors, and potentially spread.
📷 The imaging: How CT, low-dose CT, PET/CT, and other imaging examinations help physicians evaluate lung cancer.

We'll also discuss screening eligibility and what patients can expect during the imaging process. Our goal is simple: to make a complicated health topic easier to understand. Because knowing more about your health is always worthwhile.

To every survivor: we see your strength.
To everyone currently navigating treatment: you don't have to walk this road alone.
To caregivers and loved ones: your support matters, too.
And to those we've lost: your stories continue to matter.

🩷 What happens when breast imaging finds something that needs a closer look?

Sometimes additional imaging is enough to answer the question. Other times, your healthcare provider may recommend a breast biopsy.
An ultrasound-guided biopsy uses ultrasound imaging to help the radiologist locate the area of concern and guide a small needle to collect tissue samples.

🔎 Ultrasound helps guide the procedure.
🩷 A small tissue sample is collected.
🔬 The sample is sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Hearing the word "biopsy" can understandably feel scary. But being recommended for a biopsy does not automatically mean that cancer has been found. A biopsy is a way to get more information.

When you know what to expect, the unknown can feel a little less overwhelming.

🎀 ANSWER: B — Breast MRI! 🎀

Breast MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of breast tissue. Unlike mammography and tomosynthesis, it does not use X-rays.
And here's the important part: MRI isn't automatically the right test for everyone. Different breast-imaging exams answer different questions.
