We are helping kids grow healthy, confident, and ready to learn one school year at a time!

Our Stronger Together team, Dr. Natasha Bhayani, Social Worker Sam C., Community Health Worker and Family Advocate Elaina M., and Director of Inpatient Case Management & Outpatient Care Coordination Services & Social Work, Christina Linboom, handed out more than 200 backpacks to patients and their siblings last week.

Families got more than just school supplies! Our Stronger Together team collaborated with our Behavioral Health and Nutrition teams, who shared holistic tips on back-to-school routines, managing stress, and keeping nutritional choices top of mind!

La Rabida is grateful for this back-to-school partnership, made possible through the Cook County Health Stronger Together program.

The beautiful gift of these children’s books will bring smiles to others, just as Layoni did with her contagious ear-to-ear grin.

Layoni’s grandmother, Carmen Reynolds, brought in boxes of stories to share with La Rabida patients in memory of her granddaughter.

We are thankful for Carmen, who also organized the donation of toys and art supplies with the Heroine of Jericho community to bring the joy of creativity and memory-making to our patients and their families.

Our annual back-to-school bash is exactly what we wished for… our patients felt supported and celebrated ahead of the new school year.

We were thrilled to welcome the Sweis/s Professional Network to the hospital for its 3rd Annual Community Service & Civic Engagement Initiative!

La Rabida President and CEO Dr. Rolla T. Sweis, a board member of the Sweis Professional Network, joined fellow members in giving back to the children and families we serve.

Together, they collected nutritious, non-perishable foods to help stock La Rabida’s Open Access Food Pantry and connected around our shared commitment to strengthening our community.

Thank you to the Sweis Professional Network for continuing to support La Rabida and the families who count on us.

We are grateful to Illinois State Senator Mattie Hunter and Township of Lyons Clerk Elyse Hoffenberg for joining us for this event.

Seventy years ago, Charles Rubner spent four months being treated for rheumatic fever at what was then called La Rabida Jackson Park Sanitarium, the first hospital in the Midwest to treat the disease.

The former patient recently visited our hospital and stopped in to see if he could find his old room … and discovered it is now the Brenda Wolf Playroom, a large, colorful space for children staying in the hospital to enjoy!

During his recent visit, Charles, an avid reader, met with one of our volunteers, Edna, who spends time in our outpatient clinic, sharing the gift of reading and imagination with patients by helping them select a book to keep from our Lighthouse Library.

Even though a lot has changed over the decades, Charles believes the heart of La Rabida’s mission remains the same: providing special care and support for our children when they need it most!

Help us congratulate our Environmental Services team, the 2026 ISSA - The Association for Cleaning and Facility Solutions Housekeeping Games champions! 🏆🙌

Three members of our EVS team flew to Orlando, Florida, to participate in the event at the Walt Disney World Resort, putting La Rabida in the national spotlight.

🥇They claimed first place overall after placing in the bed-making, toilet-paper toss, vacuum-cleaning, and mop-relay competitions.

This championship represents the spirit and dedication of our staff who keep our hospital a clean, safe, and welcoming place for our patients and families.
