Think outside of the diaper cake before your next baby shower attendance! Things like:
* Letters for mom to read when she's feeling overwhelmed, excited, lonely, proud, etc
* Organizing a postpartum meal train
* Contributing towards doula support
* Purchasing a Childbirth Education class

Can make a huge difference in terms of how a new mother feels during the start of her journey. Even a gift card towards an experience that acknowledges the needs of the couple and not just the family can be a good reminder to continue finding time to nourish the relationship even after baby is home.

What was your favorite baby shower gift?

For black women, sitting between the knees of your relative or going to the beauty salon to get your hair braided left you feeling confident and secure. With all the chaos that can be preparing to bring your baby earthside- sitting and having your hair combed through and delicately twisted, cornrowed, plaited is the last check box before spiritually we say we’re ready to take on labor.

Having your hair braided keeps your focus off what you look like and into the energy that it takes to give birth. Your sacred birthing space is yours to occupy freely and unapologetically, however you feel the most powerful is exactly how you deserve to feel in these intimate moments. Remember, you call the shots as the center of command.

Besides the benefits of having a stress free style for labor, we know these box braids will hold up for at least two weeks postpartum. This gives you time to prioritize rest and make a plan for your next style without rushing. Did you get your hair done before labor? Or during? 👀

Last Sunday we celebrated all the amazing dads out there, this Sunday we’re educating them! 📚

Our Daddy Labor Support Workshop is designed for all the dads and partners wanting to show up, show out, and support mom while she brings baby earth side. It’s hard to know what to expect and what role you can play to help the laboring process be a smooth one. Skip the guessing & get to learning!

Covering common topics like stages of labor, comfort & relaxation techniques, and more you can relax and enjoy the last few weeks as a family of two before becoming three. This can be an overwhelming time when you’re unprepared to care for your partner — but with the right tools you’ll walk into the room full of confidence and anticipation to provide much needed emotional and physical support.

There are only a FEW spots left for this session, you won’t want to miss it! Bookmark this post to be reminded when our next classes & workshops take place ⬇️

See you there 😘

First thing’s first - Congratulations! Take a deeeeep breath.

A lot of thoughts, emotions, and questions can arise quickly and all at once right now. Regardless on if this was the goal or a surprise gift you’ll want to take your time to sit with your news and handle any immediate feelings with care.

In that same regard, take things minute by minute. We’re multifaceted beings, so if something like sorrow, fear, or stress shows up don’t think it negates the joy, anticipation, and gratitude.

Now, when it comes to handling business you’ll want to schedule an appointment to begin receiving prenatal care. To find a provider you have a few options like asking around for recommendations, checking with your insurance, and/or ACOG’s website tool.

However you initiate care or move forward with your journey, know that nothing that arises is more than what you can handle - nor is it something you’re navigating alone. You got this, and we’ve got you!

“Pregnancy can be overwhelming, even if it’s a happy surprise. Focus on caring for yourself and take things one day at a time.”

Will it be the easiest journey? Maybe not. But will it be the most worthwhile thing you’ve ever done? Absolutely.

It’s common to be nervous about birth, I mean think about everything we’ve been conditioned to believe about birth through movies and traumatic story sharing. What if we didn’t hear that it was painful, but we heard that it was purposeful. How differently would you feel about entering the final trimester or experiencing your first labor contraction?

The fact of the matter is that just like any other life altering transformation and period of growth — it can be uncomfortable. It can feel overwhelming. It can feel intimidating! But you don’t have to navigate any of it on your own.

Give us a call. We’ve got your back, Mama.
