I wish more people talked about this side of and hormone therapy! 🥹

If perimenopause or menopause has made you feel like a burden, or like you have nothing left to give the people you love… I need you to hear this. You are not lazy. You are not too much. And you are not failing at life. 🫶🏻

For years, I felt exactly that way. I isolated myself because I genuinely believed I had nothing left to offer, and that feeling is one of the loneliest things you can experience. ❤️‍🩹
But none of this is your fault. When our hormone levels start to decline during perimenopause, we begin to lose capacity for the things & people we care about (including ourselves).

If you’re in the thick of it right now… struggling to return texts or calls, falling behind on self care or basic hygiene, feeling like you’re constantly letting people down… please know that this isn’t a reflection of who you are on the inside. It’s just what your body is currently dealing with, and it is fixable. 🙏🏼

I want every woman to know that you don’t have to white-knuckle your way through every single day. You don’t have to suffer in silence, and you definitely don’t have to accept this as your new normal. You deserve to feel like yourself again, and you deserve to have the capacity to show up for your own life. ❤️

PERIMENOPAUSE👏🏻IS👏🏻NOT👏🏻A👏🏻BUZZWORD👏🏻

This is a PSA for every single woman out there trying their best to advocate for themselves…

🫶🏻 Your symptoms are real.
🫶🏻 What you are experiencing is real.
🫶🏻 And your hormones are so much more than just a ‘buzzword’.

The fact that so many women are finally finding language for what they’ve been feeling for years is not a trend. It’s called awareness.

If you have ever left a doctor’s appointment feeling dismissed, invalidated, or like you were somehow being dramatic… I am so sorry. You truly deserve so much better than that. 🥹🫶🏻

And to any providers watching this… with all due respect, do better. Your patients are coming to you vulnerable, advocating for themselves, and they deserve to be heard.

Here’s what your doctor isn’t telling you about perimenopause & birth control! 👀

Let me start by saying that BC is an incredibly important tool, and there are so many valid reasons why you may need or want to stay on it (fibroids, endometriosis, heavy bleeding, contraception, cycle regulation… the list goes on.) This isn’t about birth control being bad. This is about making sure you have ALL of your options on the table. 🤌🏻

Birth control manages your cycle. Hormone therapy manages your hormones. They serve two completely different purposes, and combining them is not only possible, but totally necessary for many women!

Here’s the problem with relying on birth control alone for perimenopause symptom management…

☑️ Birth control does NOT replace your declining estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone at therapeutic levels
☑️ Birth control will NOT prevent or slow down the hormonal decline that’s driving your symptoms. (It can sometimes make it worse 😅)
☑️ Birth control can actually suppress your body’s natural hormone production & raise SHBG.
☑️ And birth control does not provide testosterone…which your body absolutely needs!

So if you feel like birth control isn’t providing adequate support for your perimenopause or menopause symptoms, this is just a PSA that
hormone therapy may be the missing piece! 👏🏻

Here are 5 symptoms that commonly get blamed on low estrogen, but might actually be a low T issue 👀🫠

(I will be referring to test as “T” in this post 🙃)

Low T is chronically underdiagnosed and under-treated in women, and this matters for two specific reasons:
👉🏻 If you’re earlier in perimenopause and not quite ready for estrogen therapy yet, T therapy could be life changing!
👉🏻 And if you’re already on estrogen and progesterone but your symptoms just aren’t fully resolving, T therapy could definitely be the missing piece.

Here are some of the most common misdiagnosed symptoms we see in our perimenopause & menopause patients:

🧠 Brain fog: This often shows up as low mental stamina, difficulty multitasking, and executive dysfunction.
🫠 Chronic joint pain and poor physical recovery: If your body aches after basic tasks, that could be low T. (& Yes, estrogen does impact joint health & inflammation also)
💤 Poor sleep quality. Testosterone plays a key role in deep, restorative sleep. If your free T is low, your sleep quality often is too.
🥹 Lower self confidence. This can look like low self-efficacy, feeling inadequate at work, or even social anxiety.
😣 Full blown anxiety. All of your s*x hormones impact nervous system regulation, but free T is one of the most commonly overlooked hormones when it comes to managing anxiety-related symptoms.

You guys know I’m nosy, so tell me… have you ever had your free T levels checked? 👀 We find that our patients usually feel their best when their free T is at least 3 or higher! 🤌🏻

I have successfully lost 50lbs after completely destroyed my metabolism, and I’m sharing every single thing I did so you can too. 🙌🏻

Let me be very clear about something first… I did NOT do this by eating less and training harder. In fact, I did the complete opposite, and THAT is what finally worked for me.

Here’s exactly what changed:

🤌🏻 Hormone Therapy: Injectable estradiol, injectable Test osterone, & oral progesterone. Getting my hormones optimized was the foundation for everything else on this list.

🍽️ I stopped eating in a deficit: My body does not need the additional stress of thinking it’s starving every single day. I never eat below maintenance calories.

🛼 I stopped training super hard: As a former competitive bodybuilder, this was NOT easy for me. But switching to lower intensity movement (I’m a long distance rollerblader now 🤣) was one of the best things I’ve ever done for my body.

💉 I started microdosing a G’s: This has made a significant difference in reducing my inflammation, which was a huge piece of the puzzle for me.

🧠 Nervous system regulation: Specifically, REST. I am no longer interested in running my body into the ground. When my body wants to rest, I rest… without guilt or judgment.

Perimenopause completely rewired how my body responds to diet & exercise, and it took me far too long to realize that all the things I thought I was doing ‘right’ may have been to my own detriment. 🥹🫶🏻

made me gain 50lbs in 6 months despite the fact I was doing everything right. If you’ve been training harder, eating less, and still gaining weight… this is for you. 😩🫵🏻

Here’s what I had to learn the hard way:

1️⃣ What used to work, no longer works.
Super heavy lifting and intense cardio were making things SO much worse for me. My body was just puffy and inflamed all the time. Pushing harder isn’t always the answer during perimenopause (sometimes it’s actually the problem. 👀)

2️⃣ You cannot lose weight when your nervous system is dysregulated. Which sucks, because perimenopause is literally one of the most stressful things your body will ever go through. When your body is stuck in fight or flight, it is in full on survival mode. Fat loss is not a priority when your nervous system thinks you’re being chased by a bear. 🐻

3️⃣ You cannot ‘out-diet’ or ‘out-train’ a hormone deficiency (Especially low testosterone). Most women in perimenopause are walking around with tanked testosterone levels and have absolutely no idea. And no amount of calorie restriction or cardio is going to fix that.

Let me know if you want me to make a video on nervous system regulation and how to track your own stress metrics, because this was genuinely a game changer for me. 🤌🏻

This one is for all of my & menopause girlies that are ultra sensitive to progesterone therapy! 😅

So many women are told to just “push through” progesterone side effects… or worse, they’re taken off of it completely and left with zero support. And that is such a disservice, because progesterone therapy is genuinely life-changing when it’s done right.

Progesterone intolerance (aka paradoxical progesterone reactions) is real, and it’s more common than most providers realize. Since oral progesterone is metabolized in the liver, some women may be sensitive/intolerant to progesterone metabolites. This sensitivity can lead to depression, anxiety , insomnia, bloating, or leave you feeling like an absolute zombie. 🧟

If this sounds like you, don’t worry! There are ways to work around this. 🙏🏼 Here are some of the most common ways we navigate these issues with our patients:

☑️ Suppositories bypass the liver entirely & still provide systemic support
☑️ Troches are another liver-bypass option with systemic benefits
☑️ Pregnenolone can help improve overall progesterone tolerance & supports natural progesterone production (available in bio 🔗)
☑️ Split dosing (oral + suppository) is a great middle ground for women who need both sleep support AND systemic relief without the side effects

Progesterone is too important to just give up on. If your provider only offered you one option and it didn’t work for you, that doesn’t mean you are out of options. It just means you need a provider who actually knows how to work around it. 😌

Drop your progesterone questions in the comments, I read every single one! ❤️

Love it or leave it histamine Intolerance Edition! 🙃

Histamine related symptoms are a common issue we see in many of our patients. Perimenopause can trigger a lot of inflammation & immune dysfunction, so here are some of the most common remedies you guys ask me about! 👇🏻

✅ Quercetin: This is a natural mast cell stabilizer. The longer you take it, the better it works! 🙌🏻

❌ Prednisose: Many women are prescribed steroids for skin related allergies, and I’m genuinely not a fan of long term steroid use. Especially if the underlying issue is hormonal. 😅

❌ Benadryl: This is okay for very intermittent use, but avoid taking Benadryl daily since it is anticholinergic.

✅ DAO Enzymes: LOVE! DAO activity starts to decline during perimenopause, so taking DAO enzymes before meals can help reduce histamine symptoms.

✅ Pepcid: LOVEEE! Pepcid is an H2 blocker, so you can take it with other H1 blockers such as Zyrtec for comprehensive histamine management.

✅ Progesterone Therapy: This is only available via prescription, but it can be a GAME CHANGER for women experiencing perimenopause related allergies & histamine intolerance. 🤌🏻

Let me know what we should cover next?! 🤔
