💉 FLU SEASON IS COMING… EVEN IF IT DOESN’T FEEL LIKE IT! ☀️🥵

It may still be 100+ degrees outside, but believe it or not, flu season is quickly approaching!

Clearwater Pharmacy will once again be offering vaccinations to help keep you protected this fall and winter:

💉 Flu vaccines
💉 Pneumonia vaccines
💉 RSV vaccines

📅 We plan to begin administering seasonal vaccines in mid-September. Timing your flu vaccine appropriately helps ensure your protection lasts throughout the heart of flu season and doesn’t begin to wane too early.

A couple of important reminders:

💙 RSV vaccine — For most eligible adults, this is currently a one-time vaccination, not something you need every year.

💙 Pneumonia vaccine — Recommendations can be a little more complicated depending on your age, health history, and vaccines you’ve received in the past. Check with one of our pharmacists and we’ll help make sure you’re up to date!

📣 Stay tuned! We’ll be posting our official start date along with a link to our vaccine consent form soon.

It may still feel like summer outside 🌡️😎, but now is a great time to start planning ahead for a healthy fall and winter!

🚨😂 ATTENTION CLEARWATER: MONDAY IS OFFICIALLY DANETTA DURANT DAY! 😂🚨

And we feel fairly confident that Danetta is going to HATE every minute of the attention. Which, naturally, makes us want to celebrate her even more. 😜🏆

Our very own Danetta Durant was named PHARMACY TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR at the Kansas Pharmacists Association Convention this past weekend! 🎉💊👏

Yep. THE WHOLE STATE OF KANSAS. 🏆

Those of us who work beside her every day aren’t surprised one bit. Danetta is the person who keeps things moving, fixes problems before the rest of us even know there IS a problem, takes care of our patients, keeps the rest of us in line, and somehow manages to make it all look easy.

She would much rather quietly come to work Monday and pretend this whole award thing never happened.

WE WILL NOT BE ALLOWING THAT. 😂

So please stop by Clearwater Pharmacy on Monday and help us make Danetta appropriately uncomfortable by congratulating her, giving her a high five, making a big fuss, and reminding her ALL DAY LONG that she is officially…

🏆💙 So incredibly proud of this lady! 💙🏆

Last night, I had the absolute honor of presenting Danetta Durant with the KPhA Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award — and I truly can’t think of anyone more deserving!

Danetta is so much more than an employee at Clearwater Pharmacy. She is the steady hand, the problem solver, the one who jumps in wherever she is needed, and such an important part of what makes our pharmacy feel like family.

Over the years, our relationship has grown far beyond employer and employee. I am incredibly blessed to call Danetta not only a valued member of our pharmacy team, but also a dear and trusted friend. ❤️

I’m so appreciative of her loyalty, dedication, servant’s heart, and the countless ways she takes care of our patients, our pharmacy, and all of us who are lucky enough to work beside her.

I was also so thankful that Danetta’s family was able to be there last night to help honor and celebrate her. It made an already special evening even more meaningful to have the people who love her most there to see her receive the recognition she so richly deserves. ❤️

Getting to personally present her with this award, surrounded by her family and our pharmacy colleagues, was one of those special moments I’ll remember for a very long time.

Why did some prescription copays go UP after July 1, even though Kansas passed a law to LOWER prescription costs?

Here's a real example from our pharmacy:

💊 The exact same four prescriptions were filled for one patient in June and again in July.

✅ The total cost of the prescriptions decreased by $71.39.
❌ But the patient's copays increased by 92%!

How can that happen?

Kansas' new PBM reform law is designed to lower the overall cost of prescription drugs by increasing transparency and limiting unfair PBM practices. But insurance companies still control many patient copays.

Quite honestly, many pharmacists feared this could happen. We were concerned that PBMs and insurance companies might increase patient copays after the law took effect, making it appear that the new law was driving up costs. In reality, the law reduces hidden profits and fees that PBMs have collected for years, and we're already seeing signs that some of those lost profits may be shifted back onto patients through higher copays.

The important thing to remember is that this law is expected to create long-term savings by eliminating hidden costs that most patients and employers never see.

A great example is Butler County, which switched to a transparent PBM several years ago using many of these same principles. The county has saved enough on prescription benefits to help keep employee health insurance premiums stable despite rising medical costs. That's exactly the type of savings this law is intended to achieve across Kansas.

If your copay increased after July 1, ask your employer's HR or Benefits Department:

"If the overall cost of my prescription went down, why am I paying more?"

Many employers don't realize how much influence PBMs have over both prescription costs and employee copays. It's a very complex and complicated system -- and that is how the PBMs want it to stay!!

Finally, this law will only work if it is properly enforced. The Kansas Department of Insurance is now responsible for regulating PBMs, making this November's election for Insurance Commissioner one of the most important healthcare elections our state has seen.
