September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month. ❤️🦵

PAD affects blood flow to the legs and feet and can increase the risk of serious complications, including non-healing wounds and amputation. The good news is that early detection and treatment can make a difference.

This month, we’re encouraging everyone to:
✅ Know your risk
✅ Know the signs
✅ Get checked
✅ Help save limbs & lives

Don’t ignore leg pain, changes in skin color or temperature, or wounds that are slow to heal. Awareness is the first step toward prevention.

This recognition belongs to our dedicated team, community partners, and the patients who inspire us every day.

Dr. Foluso Fakorede has been shaking up healthcare in the Mississippi Delta since 2015. As the founder of Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi, he zeroed in on a serious but often overlooked problem: peripheral artery disease, where clogged arteries can quietly put legs at risk. Before his work, amputation rates in the region were among the highest in the country, hitting communities already facing health disparities.

Fakorede didn’t just treat patients — he rolled out early screening programs, educational campaigns, and community outreach to catch the disease before it became life‑threatening. Those efforts paid off. Over four years, his site saw an 88% drop in amputations, giving people a chance to keep their legs and mobility.

He’s also taken his fight to Washington, D.C., speaking to lawmakers about the urgent need for better prevention and access to care. His mission blends medicine, advocacy, and community trust, aiming to tackle systemic health gaps and put lifesaving treatments within reach of the people who need them most.

This story isn’t just about one doctor’s skill — it’s about showing how focused care and outreach can transform outcomes in places where healthcare inequities hit hardest.

Dr. Foluso Fakorede is a Nigerian-born interventional cardiologist whose work in Mississippi has transformed outcomes for patients suffering from Peripheral Artery Disease, a condition where plaque blocks blood flow to the legs. Before his intervention, amputation rates in his community were alarmingly high, with approximately 1 in 5 Black residents losing limbs due to late or limited treatment options.

By focusing on early detection and a minimally invasive procedure that restores blood flow by opening clogged arteries, Dr. Fakorede helped patients keep their legs and regain mobility.
