Happy Mother’s Day to all that mother. If you care for women, children, the elderly, the earth, the underserved, oppressed, animals, plants, your community, etc. you are mothering us all into a better world. I see a mother in my own yard, and I want my own children, my clients and families to see Mother is all around them. My heart is with those who are mothering through war, oppression, starvation, and prejudice. All the world’s mothers are our mothers. All the world’s children are our children.

The five senses for birth!
Birth is a doorway, and the five senses are the soft hands that guide you through. When you shape your environment with intention, each sense becomes its own kind of comfort, a quiet chorus reminding your body that it is safe to open.
Sight becomes a cradle:
the glow of dim light, warm and steady,
shadows that soften the edges of the room,
images and words that whisper strength back to you.
Sound is the rhythm beneath your feet:
music that wraps around your breath,
waves, drums, silence. Whatever helps you sink inward,
letting each contraction rise and fall like its own tide.
Smell is memory and grounding:
a hint of lavender, citrus, or the familiar scent of home,
the air itself becoming a gentle anchor
that keeps you rooted when the world begins to swirl.
Touch is the language without words:
warm water tracing your skin,
hands offering counter-pressure,
soft fabrics that hold you in moments when you need to be held.
Taste is nourishment and presence:
a sip of cool water, a bite of something sweet,
small offerings that remind your body
that it has all it needs for the journey.
Together, the senses weave a cocoon, a sanctuary where strength and softness meet. Where you can surrender to the ancient rhythm of birth held by a world you shaped to welcome your baby.
