Breast cancer awareness is more than a month on the calendar. For me, it’s personal. 💗

My mom has fought cancer three times. Growing up, I knew there was a possibility that one day, I might face the same battle. After learning I carried the same ATM gene mutation, years of surveillance, and multiple biopsies, I made the decision at 34 to undergo a preventative bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction.

I didn’t have breast cancer. I chose to take control of the risk I knew I carried.

It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one for me. And it’s a reminder that knowledge is powerful, early detection matters, and prevention looks different for everyone.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I encourage you to:
🎀 Know your family history.
🎀 Talk to your provider about your personal risk.
🎀 Ask whether genetic counseling or testing may be right for you.
🎀 Stay up to date on recommended screenings.

You don’t have to navigate your risk alone. Advocate for yourself, ask questions, and remember that your family history matters.

Your story is worth knowing. Your health is worth advocating for. 💗
