Our work takes us into the classroom, galleries and public arena, where we share information and resources with educators, artists and administrators.

Art Possible Ohio, (formerly VSA Ohio) is a nonprofit that connects inspired artists with their passion, service providers with resources, and all citizens with creative opportunities. From photography to music, painting, drawing, dance and movement, Art Possible Ohio works to promote the enrichment of art for all abilities across all artistic mediums. We work to change perceptions about ability and disability by helping connect people to accessible, creative opportunities that inspire all of us. Art Possible is a community that connects inspired artists with their passion, service providers with resources, and all citizens with creative opportunities. By bridging arts and disability, our programs and services constantly evolve to provide inclusive environments and accessible opportunities for people with disabilities to celebrate life through the arts. Founded in 1986, we work hard to advocate for accessibility and equality, advance careers in the creative sector, build community, and improve the academic achievement of Ohio’s students through arts integration.

Key of Genius

Key of Genius tells the extraordinary true story of Derek Paravicini, a blind, autistic musical savant, and Adam Ockelford, a piano teacher determined to unlock his genius. Set in 1980s London, the film unfolds over a series of transformative piano lessons.

When Adam meets young Derek and his supportive mother, Mary Ann, he quickly realizes traditional teaching methods won’t work. Through patience, innovation and a shared love for music, Adam discovers unconventional ways to connect with Derek, in turn learning to experience the world through the boy’s unique perspective.

The film explores themes of perseverance, breaking barriers and finding a universal language through music. Based on the acclaimed biography of the same name, Key of Genius celebrates an inspirational bond between a remarkable student and teacher.

ReelAbilities Film Festival Columbus presents: Spectrum Shorts

Join Art Possible Ohio and The Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center for an evening of shorts for our October screening of the ReelAbilities Film Festival Columbus. Spectrum Shorts is a collection of shorts about different aspects of autism. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the curator, Tristan Turner.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, films will begin at 7:00 PM.

Once More, Like Rain Man

Zoe, an autistic teen actor, sits through yet another audition where the adults behind the table label her “the autistic one,” joke that she “doesn’t look autistic,” and ask if she has an “autism super power” — you know, “like Rain Man.” Her dad Gerry, a struggling screenwriter trying to keep them both afloat, hustles her from room to room while she’s forced into role after role that reduces her to a checkbox. When Zoe overhears that her mom plans to move her in to increase her payments for having a “disabled kid” at home, the day turns into a battle for control of her own life—not just a booking. At a crowded final call, a casting assistant says the quiet part out loud: they want the character to be “more autistic,” and Zoe has to decide whether to perform a stereotype or tell the truth. What follows is sharp, funny, and cathartic—building to the inevitable when they ask her to do it “once more… like Rain Man.”

Artist Stament: "Two Beautiful Flowers" is a collage of two original pieces of art that I created. The first is a photograph that I captured of this flower. It is close-up, so it shows a lot of details.

The second flower is an oil painting. I used my photograph as a reference for the oil painting. I spent a lot of time and put a lot of heart into creating this piece, staying true to my photo, while adding my own artist spin to the painting. "

REMINDER: The 2027 Accessible Expressions Ohio Call for Art is still open!

What is Accessible Expressions Ohio?
Accessible Expressions Ohio is a statewide adjudicated exhibition featuring art from artists with disabilities from across the state. Artists can enter in the youth, emerging, or professional categories, and enter under a special theme category. Cash prizes are awarded in each category, including a Best in Show.

We are thrilled to announce this year's opening reception will be held at the Firelands Associations for the Visual Arts (FAVA) in Oberlin, Ohio!

We are also excited to announce that this year's special category is "Community Connections." Community is built through encouragement, mentorship, shared experiences, creativity, mutual support, and more. Artists are invited to explore the people, places, and moments that foster belonging, growth, and connection.

Who can apply?
Any Ohio artist living with a disability may apply. Disclosure of the disability is not required.

How do I apply?

Join Art Possible Ohio and Cinema Columbus for the September screening of the ReelAbilities Film Festival Columbus for My Brain: After the Rupture.

Program:
On a bright January morning in 2020, writer, broadcaster, and musician Clemency Burton-Hill suffered a catastrophic brain hemorrhage. After emerging from a 17-day coma, she was unable to speak or walk and faced the daunting task of rebuilding her life from the ground up. Drawing on raw and intimate recordings captured during the earliest stages of her recovery, this documentary traces Clemmie’s determined effort to reclaim her identity. As she works to return to broadcasting, finish the book she began before her injury, and once again play the violin with her son, the film becomes a moving reflection on resilience, creativity, and the healing power of the arts.

A discussion with the filmmaker will follow.
