You may already be tracking HRV on your watch or fitness device—but are you actually using that number to make better decisions about your health?

Some days you feel ready to go. Other days, the same workout feels unusually difficult, your energy is off, or you just don’t feel recovered. There may be more going on than simply having a “bad day.”

HRV can be another tool for recognizing patterns in how your body is responding to everything you’re asking of it.

Our newest blog breaks HRV down in a practical, easy-to-understand way—without turning it into another complicated health metric you have to obsess over.

If your watch is already giving you an HRV number, it might be time to understand what it’s trying to tell you.

Congratulations to Jan DeGroat, our Gym Boss of the Month! 🏆

Jan has earned this recognition through her consistency, determination, and incredible commitment to her health.

She shows up for her weekly workouts, regularly joins our Wednesday 4% Club Calls, and participates in IN THE ZONE twice each week, where she continues to challenge her cardiovascular fitness and improve her VO₂ max.

What stands out most about Jan is her willingness to keep working. She continues to build strength, improve her endurance, and challenge herself—all while bringing a positive attitude and encouraging spirit to the Specialized Strength community.
And most importantly, the work Jan has put in is making a difference far beyond the gym.

“I love working with the Personal Trainers and being part of such an encouraging community. Everyone’s journey is different, but we challenge and inspire each other along the way. I’ve felt a huge difference in my everyday life—things are more manageable, I move easier, and I can enjoy traveling and walking the beaches of Hawaii again. This community has played such an important part in my journey, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.” — Jan DeGroat

That’s what this is all about—not simply getting better at exercise, but building the strength, endurance, and confidence to keep doing the things you love.

Jan is a great example of what can happen when you keep showing up and keep moving forward.

Congratulations, Jan! Wear that Gym Boss belt proudly—you earned it! 💪🏆

Why combine exercise with oxygen instead of simply sitting and breathing oxygen?

During exercise, your muscles demand more oxygen, your heart pumps more blood, and circulation increases throughout the body. Exercise With Oxygen Therapy (EWOT) combines that increased demand with oxygen-enriched air while your body is actively working.

Research on supplemental oxygen during exercise has shown improvements in exercise tolerance and muscle oxygenation in certain settings, which may help some people exercise longer or at a greater workload.

The bigger goal isn't simply breathing more oxygen—it's improving your ability to exercise and build the endurance, stamina, and cardiovascular fitness you use in everyday life.

For adults focused on healthy aging and staying independent, that can mean working toward having the capacity to walk hills, climb stairs, travel, garden, work around the house, and keep doing the activities you enjoy.

Discover how EWOT (Exercising With Oxygen Therapy), oxygen-enriched workouts, and improved VO₂ max can boost endurance, exercise tolerance, and support healthy aging.

Schedule your Discovery Visit today to find out whether our EWOT protocol is the right fit for you.

How strong, balanced, and mobile are you after 60?

Try these 3 simple physical tests:
✅ Sit-to-Stand Test — Can you stand from a chair without using your hands?
✅ Single-Leg Balance Test — Can you balance on one leg for about 10 seconds?
✅ Floor Get-Up Test — Can you get down to the floor and back up with minimal assistance?

These simple movements challenge leg strength, balance, hip mobility, coordination, and functional fitness—all abilities that become increasingly important for staying active and independent as we age.

Your goal isn't to “pass” or “fail.” Use these tests to better understand where your strength, balance, and mobility are today and where you may want to improve.

🤔 Not sure where to start?

If these tests showed you that your strength, balance, or mobility isn’t where you want it to be, searching for more exercises online may not be the answer.

Come see us in the clinic. We can help identify where you’re struggling, determine what you need to work on, and give you a clear starting point based on you.

You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Schedule a Discovery Visit and let us help you build the strength and confidence to stay independent.

Struggling to get up from the floor as you get older?

Getting back to standing takes more than arm strength. Your legs, hips, core, upper body, balance, and mobility all work together to help you get up safely and confidently.

These simple strength exercises for adults over 60 can help build the functional strength you need for everyday movement:
• Sit-to-stands, supported mini squats and step-ups for stronger legs
• Glute bridges, Standing hip abduction and supported lunges for stronger hips
• Standing marches, seated knee lifts, and wall planks for core stability
• Wall, countertop, and chair push-ups for upper-body strength

Being able to get down to the floor and back up is an important part of maintaining strength, mobility, confidence, and independence as you age.

You can train for this.

Build the strength. Practice the movement. Stay independent.

If getting down to or up from the floor is currently difficult or unsafe for you, consider working with a physical therapist before practicing floor transfers on your own.
