We were honored to welcome nearly 60 incredible professionals to our Affinity Home Care Agency office for the SCAN Oakland membership meeting.

There is something powerful about bringing together people who share the same mission: helping seniors, supporting families, and strengthening our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, connected, collaborated, and contributed to making this event such a success. We are grateful for the opportunity to host so many passionate professionals dedicated to serving Oakland County seniors.

We’ve had the privilege of speaking with people in their 90s and asking a simple question:

“What’s your secret?”

The answer is surprisingly consistent.

Keep moving.

Not because they’re trying to break records.
Not because they’re spending hours in the gym.

They simply refuse to stop living.

A short walk.
Standing up more often.
Stretching during the day.
Taking the stairs.
Staying active with purpose.

Those small habits add up over time.

Movement helps maintain strength, balance, circulation, independence, and confidence.

It’s not about doing something extraordinary.

It’s about doing something consistently.

The goal isn’t just adding years to your life.

It’s adding life to your years.

Retirement is supposed to be the reward. Not the reason you stop moving.Here's the truth, when movement stops, everything gets harder.

Standing up. Walking. Staying independent. It all starts to slip. So when we see a patient struggling, we don't throw a 30-exercise routine at them and wish them luck. We start small. Four or five movements.

Sliding the heel. Pumping the feet. Simple stuff that actually gets done. And here's the part most people skip, we explain WHY.

Knowing that strengthening your thigh muscles makes it easier to stand up? That's the thing that actually motivates someone to do the work .

Oh, and we loop in the family too. Because a good reminder from someone you love goes a long way. Movement is medicine. And it doesn't have to be complicated.
