This week, the New Hampshire Medical Society leadership team is attending the American Medical Association's annual conference in Chicago.

The annual American Medical Association meeting brings together physician leaders from across the nation to debate policy, elect leadership, and shape the future of medicine. Through the House of Delegates, physicians collaborate on solutions to today's most pressing health care challenges and establish policies that guide the AMA's advocacy on behalf of patients and the medical profession.

We are very excited to share some photos from the event!

Thank you to President Marie Ramas, Delegate Travis Harker, Alt. Delegate Alan Hartford, and NHMS CEO Cathy Stratton for attending and representing New Hampshire Physicians.

Physicians want to provide care to every patient. Yet decisions made by third parties in health care are limiting how patients get the care they need and deserve. The New Hampshire Medical Society urges support for prior authorization reform to help strengthen the patient-physician relationship and ensure access to care.

Did you know that the prior authorization process is time consuming for providers, difficult to navigate, and annually costs an estimated 23-31 billion in annual administrative costs for outpatient services? This burden diverts staff from patient care.

You can learn more about the financial burden of prior authorization through the American Medical Association below.

Behemoth health insurers claim this time-wasting practice improves care and saves everyone money. Look beyond the myths and find out the facts.

Annually, Emergency Medicine Day is recognized globally and celebrates the expertise and dedication of emergency medicine professionals, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, and support staff who provide quick, life saving care in emergencies.

Emergency Medicine Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of emergency medical systems, highlight professional competence, promote safety and support, and encourage public engagement and advocacy for emergency care access.

We celebrate the dedication to those who work in the field, and thank them for being so dedicated to this difficult work! Thank an emergency medical professional tomorrow!

“The question before us is not whether Medicaid can be improved. It is whether proposed changes will make the system more stable—or less.

Stability in coverage is not just a benefit for those enrolled. It supports the providers who deliver care, the employers who depend on a healthy workforce, and the communities that rely on local access to services.” — New Hampshire Medical Society President Marie Ramas

Please click below to read the full op-ed in the New Hampshire Bulletin, submitted by NHMS President Marie Ramas, where she highlights the role of Medicaid across the Granite State and discusses proposed legislative changes:

In New Hampshire, we are having an ongoing conversation about the cost of health care — what’s driving it, who pays, and what can be done to bring it under control. Those are important questions. But they are incomplete without another: What happens when access to coverage becomes less stable?

Physician led care teams are at the heart of high-quality healthcare. By working closely with patients, these teams offer well-informed treatment options, comprehensive care, and ensure every decision is grounded in experience and proven practice.

When physicians lead the way, patients can feel confident that their care is safe, effective, and thoughtfully guided every step of the way.
